Various sources say either the 8600gt or the 2600xt.

Also, do you think it will be out before school starts?

    The 8600GT.

The F8sa will have the HD2600.

is that the only difference between the f8sv and f8sa? Are there any other laptops in the f8s family?

The F8 is a new series, so far only the F8sv and F8sa have speculated, with the former announced by ASUS N.A. last week.

Therefore, the F8sv should be available in North America, but no word on the F8sa.

Since that question has already been answer, I'll just ask another gfx related question. How does the GDDR2 version of the 8600M GT (I'm guessing that's the one F8sv) compare to a x1800 Mobility 256MB?

Asus doesn't generally confirmed launch dates. It's speculated that it will start being sold at the end of August with production at full speed mid-late Sept. That's just what I've heard.

Because I really need a laptop before school and it's either an Inspiron 1520 now, or this baby at the end of August. Or possibly a thinkpad t61 :)S graphics) or a c90s (horrible battery life).

I personally think it would be worth it for you, in the long term, to wait the extra ~10 days for the F8Sv. It's a superior laptop to the Dell and as you've stated, it has significant advantages over your other options.
