for some reason it takes 10-20 ticks before it boots up.

running xp-sp1a and sp2 and both os's takes 10-20 ticks.

    specs are

    ASUS Z96Js
    C2D T5600 1.8Ghz
    2Gb Mushkin DDR2 667Mhz
    8x Samsung DVD-RW
    100gb Hitachi 5400rpm

i tweaked the crap out of the bootup files etc and it still takes a lot of ticks to boot up.

my friend with a inspiron 100gb 5400rpm CD takes about 3-4 ticks to boot up.

    anyone having the same problem?

It is very hard to figure out this issue in different machine with different applications which occupy much capacity in a hard drive. More space is taken by software in a hard drive, more time need to take during bootup a Windows.
On the other hands, some setting can speed up the bootup time such as disable the startup program, and change the setting in "regedit" and so on.
    Cheers

but its weird because both are fresh copys with just drivers installed and updates.

and they both still take 10-20 ticks.

are those ticks coming from the harddrive? If so, that is an early indication of harddrive failure. Might wanna check on that.

Some models of hard drives will make the sound when running Windows or application, but it is still weird having 10~20 ticks. Almost the new hard drives in the market don't make many the ticks sound. It is supposed not to happen in this 100gb Hitachi 5400rpm.
    Cheers

My Z96Js takes a while to load up too, even with a Seagate 7200rpm. So you're not alone!

Umm ticks...I measure seconds. In the past I ran the test and it takes about 50 seconds to boot to XP SP2 login screen. (Z96JS specs in sig).

The strange thing is my G732 (Specs in sig) booted XP to the same point in only 35-40 seconds and its a 3+ year old machine.
