Hello Everyone!![]()
I want to say that I am an Asus owner but when I was doing research on what model I should I got lost with all the different kinds.
For example:
I have been thinking about getting the G50Vt-x5.
I was reading a thread on here on what you can max it out with:
"8gb (2x4gb) 800mhz DDR2, 500GB 7200rpm HDD or a SSD HDD, and a X9100 or T9900 CPU."
I was thinking ok, I can do that. I'll take one!![]()
Then I read the post after that:
"Eh well theres deals on good cpu's out there I bought this T9600 off David and the cost of both together put me under the next priced G50. That said the next price also had a nicer screen."
![]()
What's the next model!?!? Then after doing some Google work my brain got wrapped up with all the different models out there of the G50.
So my question is can you please tell me the G50's released in order.![]()
![]()
I.e What was the model before the G50VT-X5 and what was after and so on....
I want to buy one but my budget is super tight so I need to look over all the models very carefully and all the different upgrades I can do and compare the pros and cons with the different prices.
All answers will be greatly appreciated!![]()

Give us an idea of a budget. That way we know what you're working with.
By the way, are you only looking at the G50 line? -
I found the asus g50vt-x5 on tigerdirect for 739. So I want to start between a base price of 700-750 and upgrade as I need. It just seems that I cannot find anything better than the X5 at tigerdirect for that price.
It comes with a P7450 and NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS on a 64bit OS and can support 8gb or ram.
But my issue is that it was released a while back and so I would like to see the models released in order after it to compare prices.
I'm hoping that my base price will help answer your question:
"Are you only looking at the G50 line?"
Because in truth I have no idea what other lines there are and what they are equipped with at the starting price of the X5. -

Well, the G51vx-RX05 has much better gaming performance, but it's $1050 at the moment. Probably too much. (But if you have $1050 + tax to burn, I'd recommend it.)
The The G50 models released after the X5 are the X6 and the X8TW (I think that's the name. I know for sure there's an "8" in there.) They are both Newegg exclusives, and thus you can no longer find them. Zilch.
For comparison's sake the X1 and the X5 are pretty much the same laptop. Only difference is processor, and a larger battery on one of them, if I recall correctly.
As for pricing of similar laptops, you are not going to find any non-refurbished machines with those specs anywhere near that price. -
Thanks for putting everything into order for me!
After a quick search is seems that the X1 comes with a P8400 which is a difference of 26 points according to http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php
Not worth it in my eyes.
And they have the same GPU too.
It sounds like I found a golden egg here for the price. I think I will upgrade the CPU to the T9900 when the price drops a bit. According to the website mentioned above it actually scores better than the X9100 (extreme) and is currently being sold for half the price!
Thanks for the help! Rep given!
If you have any advice to offer on what I mentioned please feel free to tell me. For one is the site I'm using to judge CPU scores accurate? -

When looking at the T9900 and X9100 in an Asus G50, they give the same performance... with the added problem that the X9100 is hotter than the T9900. The biggest advantage for the X9100 is multiplier overclocking, which is a disabled feature in the G50. -
"When I looked on eBay and was comparing the X9100, T9900, and P9700, the T9900 was the most expensive."
Really? That's weird, I did google shopping search and they were coming up at $300-$500...
I'll check ebay and then what the others were listed at. I will also look at the P9700.
"they had a T9900 scoring better than a QX9300 quad core"
haha!

I"ll stick with the t9900 if the prices I was seeing were true through the Google Shopping search.
Looks like I will be getting the X5! That is, when tigerdirect has them in stock againhaha

If you find the X1 at a not-too-ridiculously-higher price, try that out. I think the X1 lid is better looking, if nothing else.
As for the processors, those were the prices a couple of months ago. During my little experiments with G51 and a quad, some dude sold a perfectly functional QX9300 to me (confirmed because Ken from GenTech tested it for me) for about $450. Epic steal.
eBay is your friend.
EDIT: Shirley (who is actually some guy in China) has an almost-OEM T9900 at $399, while some guy from Arizona has an OEM X9100 for $400. There are cheaper ES models, but ask other people about which is better than what. -
"I think the X1 lid is better looking, if nothing else."
Totally agree with you there!
$450! That's insane! Does he have another haha
So are you saying that I should see which is better between:
An almost-OEM T9900 and an OEM X9100? -

The almost-OEM T9900, hands down. There is no gain from an X9100 other than bragging rights. (Which is why, in my misguided e-peen moment, bought and installed one).
About the ES models: Engineering Samples are pre-release models used for testing my engineers, hence the name. There are different "levels" of ES CPUs, ranging from crap to almost-OEM. You can get Almost-OEM Engineering Samples for dirt cheap compared to a full-priced OEM.
What I suggest though, is to ask around (or search the forums) for which ES CPU is better/best. For example, some ES CPUs are unstable, or might lack a temperature sensor.
What are the models and in what order were they released. I want an Asus!
