    Hey guys,
So Im having problems with my fan and temps on my eee pc 1005ha....Yesterday I took the whole thing apart unplugged and cleaned the fan and applied arctic thermal paste instead of the stock thermal pads....my cpu temps are generally below 30 which is great, however I have a temp1 reading of 50-70...even after a cold boot...I think thats the motherboard temp right? I dont know how it could possibly be that hot straight after booting? So Im wondering what is it that detects the temperature? Is it something built into the motherboard or is it something I can change? Or do you think I have a faulty fan? The fan definitely spins ok but could there be something else? Any help or advice appreciated Im running out of options here and because its getting hot its throttling my netbook....not something that should be happening!!!

    your lap..

    har har har

there are temperature diodes on the chip itself, and probably in other strategic places. 50-70* is pretty hot for a cold boot, it's been sitting a while? When you first get in windows, you shouldn't be that much higher than ambient. Maybe the PLL or FSB? When you took it apart, are you sure you didn't unplug the fan?

No I think the problem is the temperature detection...its not actually hot when it starts up....I think its a false reading...I have left it off and started up and its been the same...the fan is blowing out cold air!! The cpu temps are really low...is temp1 the gpu? The hd is also in the 20s

well if you took it apart i'd say you damaged something. And it's likely not something you can change.

I'd be a little more optimistic and say the heatsink isn't making good contact with the cpu. So the CPU heats up, motherboard tries to cool it down, but it can't do much because the heatsink isn't seated properly.

It is likely something you can change just by taking it apart again and putting everything back together carefully and make sure everything is snug. I did something similar but not as drastic when first applying thermal paste.

No I made sure the cpu had proper contact....I had this problem before and thats why I opened it....the cpu temps are fine...around 30...what exactly is temp1 for this model?

Also wondering could it be the fan thats overheating and causing the raised temps??? It doesn't seem like its making any extra noise though....

If you only applied the thermal paste yesterday then it has not even had time to bond. Arctic Silver 5 takes 200 hours before the bonding process is complete. I had temps around 40oc and after applying AS5 it jumped to 55 on idle and gradually crept down to 38oc after about a month. This is normal.
