I just had my USB ports on my N80nv die. I'm kind of suspecting maybe an internal hub or something, as Windows sees the USB controller, but at best gives "the device is not working properly" errors as the connect/disconnect sound keeps playing. At worst it doesn't detect anything at all. Tried muiltiple devices, all the ports, an emergency antivirus boot CD running Linux just to rule out some sort of (super unlikely) Windows problem. With a mouse plugged in, the computer actually runs slow in the BIOS-definetly seems to be a hardware problem with USB.

My internal keyboard (and-after reenabling it-trackpad) work fine-I'm assuming they use PS/2 connections rather than USB.

At any rate, this is supposed to have a 2 year warrenty, and I bought it February of last year, so it should still be covered.

Bad thing is I don't seem to have a receipt-I bought it from Newegg. Not even sure I would have gotten a receipt, but if I did, I don't have it now.

Anyone know if that matters, or how the warranty process is supposed to work? I found my warranty card in my box, and it's got an 888 number that's supposed to be 24/7, so I guess I could even call now, though maybe I'd have a better chance of getting someone decent earlier in the day.

Ugh...if I have to replace it, not sure what I'd replace it WITH, since I don't really want another Asus after this, and most of the models I like are Asus :-/

You don't need a receipt for an RMA. As long as you've registered your laptop, Asus will already have your warranty information in their system. However, in the rare case where you should need your receipt, you should be able to pull up your newegg order history and print a copy from there.

To initiate your RMA, just call or e-mail Asus notebook support and explain your situation. They'll e-mail you a FedEx shipping label and an RMA components checklist where you have to fill out some basic info and a description of your problem.

Thanks! I never registered it, but hopefully at worst I can just use the info on Newegg.

    Guess I'll call tomorrow :-/

Try registering it online right now and before you call. Hopefully by then, Asus can pull your information up tomorrow when you call.

Great idea! I just finished registering it, and I guess I'll call the number they list online rather than the one in my warranty pamphlet. (Maybe it's more of a direct number, and it's shorter hours-maybe actually getting someone who can help.)

Doesn't look like there's a way to initiate this through email unfortunately.

(Gosh darn it I hate having to resort to my trackpad! :-D )

Oooookay. I just got to work, plugged in my USB hub...and my laptop began installing drivers for everything...I'm currently typing on my USB keyboard, using my USB mouse. My Blu Ray drive and iPod work too...

What the heck is going on? Some kind of intermittent short on an internal USB hub or something? I use different power supplies at home and work...have an external monitor hooked up at work through HDMI -> DVI, of course plug in a different Ethernet cable, but...

Obviously I'm pretty much expecting this to happen again, but I'm not sure that it'll do any good calling tech support to report..."um, the USB system was completely dead...but now it's fine" :-/

    Dear OP,

If you did not register your notebook it's not an issue when requesting for RMA, you're serial number will validate the warranty. Additionally, newegg has an order history function, you can reprint your receipt if the RMA requires you to do so. Hope this information helps.
