I am an owner of the ThinkPad T61 (7663A21).

Asus has gained a reputation amongst gamers and is known to be a relatively lag-free notebook. Yet, it is not known to have 3D shock-sensor to protect its harddrive nor is its keyboard spill-resistant to protect its mother-board against accidental liquid spillage.

So what do you, owners of Asus, think ?

Asus v1s does have a spill resistant keyboard. Asus makes cutting edge notebooks which would be just an absolute dream if they could fix their power management issues. IMHO of course.

I like :p but somehow ever single notebook has some little flaws. If you look at the T61p it seems as though it's flawless...
A8Js is reported to have a terrible screen, along with quick fading paint.
    F3Sv somehow has terrible batterylife.
V1S has noticeable flex according to some.
V2S is said to have the same screen as the A8 with terrible batterylife.
G1S has a video card that hits 100 degrees celsius, as well as the rather unattractive thick bezel.
If Asus would release something that's actually flawless I imagine it'd be awesome given that almost all of their notebooks exhibit excellence in some aspect far beyond their peers.

My V2S screen is beautiful--far from terrible. High resolution glossy and the color is amazing. It also has a spill-resistant keyboard. It's 5 pounds and quite thin and light, in my opinion, for a notebook I'll use for everything. I don't own a desktop anymore. The touchpad is very responsive and the fingerprint reader is well placed. I don't know about flex--I'm no computer whiz. Unfortunately, something happened while I was messing with the TPM and some recommended Vista tweaks, and I got the dreaded blue screen of death, from which the reseller support person could not help me recover. I'm awaiting a replacement now. Can't comment about the battery life, but I knew that it wasn't likely to be a strength when I was going into the purchase. I will work plugged in for the most part, except for when I'm catching up on work at home. But I bought a second AC adapter for that. I've heard others say the V2S has a "crippled" graphics card. But I don't know Bioshock from culture shock so I really don't care as long as the graphics card can handle Vista and manage my media stuff well. The hi-res glossy screen in a 14 inch notebook, as far as I can tell, is quite rare. The V2S may be the only one that has it--I don't know. At any rate, I"m sad I had to send the computer back, but very much still looking forward to the V2S.

the only thing i dont like (as previously mentioned) is the battery life, but that was a sacrifice i was willing to take

ASUS was a good brand. I'm saying was because I'm not so sure anymore.

For instance, battery life: this issue simply begs for improvement, and ASUS is doing nothing about it for almost a year now. Obviously, battery is one of the main concerns when it comes to notebooks.

Second is, as somebody already says, ASUS seems not to know how to target its EU and US customers. Something is botched up with every model. An example: 512MB integrated RAM on the U3. Maybe they are focusing more on the Asian market where the requirements are different, who knows... but they aren't designing their notebooks properly for EU and US. They have a zillion type of notebooks none of which is quite right for anybody. The GXX and the higher-end models of A8 were an exception, being quite well-targeted -- hence the sales.

Asus is one of the few notebook brands I will even consider buying, for quality, warranty, service, performance, and in some cases even price.
