I'm thinking of getting a G60VX, but I want to know what everyone here thinks of the design. Especially from the people who own a G51 with that design on it. I'm not big on the colour white, but the G60VX which I'm thinking of getting has a backlit keyboard, and a rather nice design. It's either that or a G71GX. Specs don't really matter as they're both the same, except for screen size/resolution, and the Blu-ray in the G71 and the G60 only having a DVD drive.
So basically, is the white design on the G51/G60, nice? And would you recommend it over a G71 basing it on pure aesthetics?
-
the G60 only has a DVD Drive? I thought it came with a bluray drive. But yea, I personally am a bigger fan of the White design than the black/blue of the G51VX-X1A/X2A/A1. I plan on ordering one when it becomes available and replacing it. the G60 imo, doesn't warrant its cost for what it provides, especially with mobile i7's looming around the corner.
-
Woops, my mistake, it actually does have a Blu-ray. And also I'm pretty sure I read in a review that it has a keyboard like the G51 (backlit). I did kind of want a number pad too.
Pity it only has a 1366 x 768 resolution screen. That's a real deal breaker that might lead to me getting a G71 instead.
BTW, those prices are in Australian dollars, so don't be shocked. -
I know they are AU, but even the estimated retail over here is about the same as a G51VX-A1, without the proper screen res and with a slightly larger screen. iirc, it is actually a couple 100$ more. so yea....not worth its cost, IMO.

The white is what sold it for me design wise.
-
I prefer the white design over all of them. I really wanted to wait for the g60 but I think I might pick up a g51 for now and maybe sell it in a year to get a g60. Using the g51 on my own I don't mind the design but I need something the average public will see.
I'd go with a G71 (nice design too) but that backlit KB sold me!
The G60 could take a long time (months) to get here and I would only get a 1080p version anyway. Even that is a gamble so I'm going with the g51 for now. -

I wouldn't have minded the reseller cover.
But the white is a great choice. A plus is that you don't see fingerprints. And since shadow made a mention of the keyboard, once you try chiclet, you will never go back. -
Not for me. Too "gamey" looks stupid taking notes with it in med school.
-
ya i have the white lid as well. i like it. and the lights. it isn't too loud while still looking like a freaking decepticon.
-
Agreed once the g60 comes here with a display with a higher reso than 1366x768, I'll sell my g50 and grab one. For now the only downside is the screen and that can be fixed with a nice 22 inch external.
-
Got my new external mon all ready to go.
One thing I wonder about the G60 is that in all the pics I've seen, there are no side lights. I think it looks very sleek that way.
Also seen reviews that the G60 has 4g DDR3 memory. Not sure if they made a mistake.
Wish the manufactures would realize that not all gamers are teenagers. Nice laptops like these cover a wide range of demographics. -
White > Blue alien thing for sure =)
Im happy with my laptop ( The white one ) and everyone in my class likes it too =) also, a couple of peoples not from my class that was walking nearby stopped me to ask what model is it =)
The only thing I hate about this laptop is the lights always on =/ -
I've actually used mine (blue alien) for a presentation for a funding proposal to the City Hall mayor and councilors and I received alot of compliments on the "coolness" factor of the laptop. The mayor himself said he may pick one up for his son and we joked around how it was really going to be for him. even some of the older women councilors were giving me appraising looks
it mustve been the hypnotic lights LOL

The montevina platform is also being phased out as the new calpella platform is being introduced in a month or so along with the core i5/i7 cpus.
So no more front side bus technology(byebye north/south bridge), instead the cpu will handle the memory while a single chipset handles everything else(can't think of the chipset off the top of my head) Basically a whole new clean setup.
Hopefully the G60 uses the Calpella platform, maybe that is the reason for the delay? -
I am pretty doubtful that the G60 will use the capella platform since the G51's BIOS are essentially that of the G60s.
There would be no reason for them to do that unless they plan to rewrite the BIOS......
But then again, who knows. -
well, being only in high skool, i think the black+blue looks way cooler than the white one. my orginal thought was quite the opposite but after recieving it, i love it. the X1A/X2A/A1 has blue LEDs as well, instead of white, which is nicer. it matches so wel with my copperhead/mamba/mamba dock. turn off the lights...its awesome. not too sure for when i get into college, what people will say..."hey cool laptop!!" or "wow what a lil immature ****, is he coming to study or play games?"
but as a sophomore, i love the design. my parents even love the design. if i bring this into my skool, porter-gaud (prep skool) then every turns their heads to me. being a new student, its cool to have people come up to me and ask questions + i love to explain how awesome it truly is. my computer teacher loves the laptop, he used it as a display model of a true gaming laptop amongst all the other macs... -

For me it wasn't a clean cut decision. I like simplicity, but blue is also my favorite color. The blue and black case is pretty neat, but the white one feels more "modest" to me. Or as some reviews say, aggressive and appealing. Although you could possibly say the same thing for the blue case. The blue case seems to give off a slightly higher "gamer" feel.
Really, it was knowing that the white one had back light keys that sold me that model.
Now the G71 is probably the most modest looking (of the G series) and could have been my favorite if only they toned down the red a bit. A maroon color would have been more appealing. -
Well, not wanting to sound too pedantic,but...ALL G51s have the backlit chiclet KB.

The white from the outside and black from the inside makes it look like a console. The blue flashing lights on the logo and sides gives it the attraction of eyes especially with the looks of the notebook. The robotic wings give it the look that it's a cool device and make it look like a device from the Transformers story. The notebook's looks are for pure gamers that like to have a notebook with looks completely for gaming.
This is my opinion.
What does everyone here think of the white design on the G51/G60VX?
