When I was playing with my new laptop Asus z63a, turning it around, there are a couple of times, a window called "Pmode cfig" popped up, and it gives you option to change the resolution option. First time, I cancelled it. Second time, I didn't have time to cancel it, and it changed the resolution to low 860x640. I had to go to desktop, right click, and select the 1280x600. But now the sreen looks very ugly, like stretched.
What is that screen? and how come it pops up suddenly? And I do I change it back?![]()
Thanks!

Right click on desktop go to properties. Then settings. and change the resolution to 1280 x 768
-
Thank you. Yeah... I changed it to the highest resolution. Now the text and picture look great again. I don't know why that window pops up by itself...

Pmode Config is part of the Power4Gear program. To open it, from the Start Menu select Programs>Asus Utility>Power4Gear>PMode Config and then select Default.
This window has never automatically opened on me but that is where it is located. I never use this to change the resolution, I always use the process SRD mentioned. -
Also right click on desktop go to properties. Then appearance. then effects and turn on clear type font. Will font better for LCD panels.

Thanks, for the extra info.
It is very strange. I just unplugged the AC to see how much battery time I have. When I plug back in the AC, the Pmodcfg window pops up again. I then unplug and plug the ac cord several times, everytime when the ac cord is plugged in, the Pmodcfg window pops up and change the resolution to the lowest setting. Very annoying. Is there anywhere I can change the setting so it does not show up again?
Thanks! -
I dont even know what that is. Did you install something?

PMODE is the power management utility from Asus. My W3V has a button along the right edge of the laptop that lets me cycle the modes (you may have hit this button as you moved the laptop). One of the modes is 'Presentation', and that also changes the resolution to a fairly low 4:3 aspect ration, which is probably best used with the S-Video out to a TV or projector. Your default AC mode may be set to "Presentation". There should be a PMODE config in the Asus menus...just make sure that the "AC" mode is set to "Super Performance" and not "Presentation".

Its called power4gear not pmode though
-
Lee,
That seems solved the problem. I changed to Super Performance, and the pmodcfg window did not appear again when I unplug and plug the power cable. Many thanks! -
Cool. Just be aware that the switching of power modes wasn't the problem, it was specifically switching to the "Presentation" mode that changed the screen resolution. For instance, you may want to set your 'Battery' setting to "Email/Internet", in which case it should automatically switch between the "Super Performance" and "Email/Internet" mode, but shouldn't change the screen resolution.
Glad I could help!
Edit - Thanks for the correction, SRD!
What is "Pmode cfig"?
