Hello everyone!
I have a X83VM X-1 running Vista 64bit. It came from Best Buy with 4GB ram. I would like to know if it can be upgraded to 8GB of ram. Asus support said that 4GB was the max but that configurations for this model can vary. It sounds to me like they punted in answering the question. Edge tech makes 4GB ram sticks for this model but they are well over $250 each so before I spend that kind of money I need to know if it will be recognized.
Thanks,
TRP

Unless your REALLY using it, just wait no sense in paying 5 times as much as 2x2GB kits to get a 2x4GB. They should drop soon but as usual no telling. Northbridge usually tells us what the max is but everest ultimate will also usually tell you what the max is.

I agree with Clutch--if you're going to lay out that kind of money, you'd probably be better off adding an SSD or upgrading the CPU.
The GM45 chipset that the X83VM uses can technically use up to 16gb RAM, but the X83 may be limited by the BIOS to less than that.
Apparently the G50 line can take 2x4gb: "I just purchased a Asus G50VT notebook with 4GB of memory (2x2GB). I contacted ASUS tech about putting in 2x4GB memory and they said it is possible even though ASUS hasn't officially confirmed it." --( http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=74711) (Someone used 8gb of 667mhz RAM here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=337447)
That being the case, I'd bet the X83 will too, but I haven't heard of anyone who's tried.
Good luck! -

I believe the G50 also uses the GM45 and is limited to 8GB which everest reports as such.

Thanks everyone for your quick response and suggestions. Everest ultimate is great and I never knew it existed. I am going to purchase this software having been very impressed with the trial version. Having forums such as this is extremely helpfull.
