What is the highest CPU the K40IN can support?

I am interested in buying the ASUS K40IN, but the one I see on sale only comes with the Pentium Duo-Core CPU (T4300). If I was to buy this notebook, I would want to upgrade the CPU, so I was wondering which CPUs are compatible with it. Is the compatibility dependant on the BIOS, or does it work as long as they have the same CPU socket? I am not familiar with upgrading CPUs on notebooks, but from my experience for desktops they are usually socket dependant.

The highest K40IN spec model for sale supports the T6600, and the bios update history on the ASUS page shows that it also supports the P7350. Am I out of luck to upgrade this notebook to something higher than the two CPUs that I have mentioned?

What chipset do you have (pm45)?

If so, you can use any socket P CPU, but the quad core cpus might not be supported by the BIOS (and the extreme versions also might not be supported).

I haven't actually purchased the notebook yet.
I can get the base model for relatively cheap, but I want to make sure that I can upgrade its processor to something like the P8600 or T9500 before deciding whether its still worthwhile.

On newegg it says it has this chipset: NVIDIA MCP75L

It's hard to say, but I think if it supports a P7350, it should support any dual core socket P CPU.

I would maybe send an email to asus to be sure.
