As stated in my signature, my Asus k42j's ram is only 2gb ddr3. I'm planning to upgrade my RAM so I can run 64-bit but I just want to know what's my notebook's maximum ram that it can accommodate? Can it load 6-8gb? Thanks in advance :)

Any updates, guys? I really want to know the max capacity of my notebook before I buy additional RAM :)

I went to the shop where I bought my notebook, the salesman said that he's not sure either. Is there an app that can measure the max RAM my ASUS can accommodate? :(

It should support 8GB. Is your current memory on 1 stick? What do you plan on using your computer for?

-Yeah, it's just one stick but 2gb ddr3, i still have a spare space for another stick. I plan to use my notebook for gaming, video editing, photoshop, and other matters such as academic requirements that require multi-tasking. Btw, what site did u find my notebook's max RAM capacity? Thanks again :)

You could add a 4GB stick and have 6GB's.

Intel's 55 chipset supports 8GB and I assume the BIOS also allows it.

    Really? That's great then. I will try searching already for a 4gb :) Thanks a lot :)

Thanks for the info! Btw, how'd you know that my asus model's chipset is Intel 55? Could you kindly link me a site where I could see my asus k42j's detailed specifications including the max RAM it can accommodate? :)

From the specs in your signature. The i5-450M is only available for the Intel 55/57 chipset (switchable graphics will typically use a HM55 chipset, while the rest will use the PM55 chipset). Use Intel ARK. You can search Asus' website for detailed specs of your system.
