What exactly are you referring to? The technology in the laptop or the stability of the laptop?

Asus' U, V, & W series are intended to have their highest build quality. Whether they actually do or not is something I don't know, as my only experience has been with my Z71V.

I'm talking about reliability, stability and least amount of physical problems. Not performance.

Heh talk about the ultimate asus notebook drawback being the Z71V or Z71A I bought one too and yes dead recharger.

Perhaps Geared2play.com can answer about reliability?

honestly, other than having to replace several batteries, my Z71V has been extremely reliable.

It is arguable which ASUS is the most well-built... The V/W/U series (in no particular order) are supposed to be the quality lines. Does the OP have any particular model in mind? Maybe we can give some insight then (like what are the drawbacks and the advantages of the particular model).

I also think it's the V/W/U with the exception of the Lambo series and the odd S series. Of course not all versions of the V/W/U were all good, ie; the V1S.

That's arguable as theres always going to be bad apples or problems considered by some and not by others. But for the most part all asus models are quite reliable, just do your research before getting something that you might not like.

As far as most well built physically, like others have mentioned, v/w/u series

    Yeah, W3J is old-school. :)

OP, sorry, I forgot the G2 mention by the time I got to writing my reply :)

From what I've read (never owned one, only seen briefly in a store) it seems the G models are quite solidly built. They must be with all that bulk :) I would rate them in-between the budget series A, F and the "business" series V, W, U, with some of the V/W/U possibly flimsier and worse built than the G-s. (e.g., some quality issues in the V1 series, the U screens look pretty flimsy to me -- they must be to some extent, given they are so small...)

Do you plan to move it around a lot? Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about the build quality.

As to reliability (of the internal hardware), I've seen the new G1 models gets quite hot. That might take its toll on the lifetime of the components. I don't know about the G2.

Besides that, there should be some reviews around from which you could make an idea.

Thanks guys! Yes I've seen a lot about the G1 and it getting hot but I think it doesn't seem to be affecting the G2, especially because its larger... and I Would imagine the newer g2sg-a1 is even better with the penryn which generates less heat I believe.

I just received my m50sv a couple weeks ago. It feels very solid. My guess is that this model and the other M series haven't been mentioned is because they have little to no history other than the Asus name. It is expected they will be reliable but won't be brought up in a discussion like this until some time has passed. Screen bleed (not limited to mine) would also make it hard to recommend given the request for few physical problems...

That was my reasoning for not mentioning it... The M5XXX are an open question at this point. Some machines marketed as multimedia by ASUS in the past have been excellent, like the M6BNe. Let's hope the new M's follow in their footsteps. But only time will tell.
