Price and specs on the W3V? It doesn't make any sense to me. They have to know what they are if they are already ordered. Wouldn't it make sense from a business standpoint to release the specs and price as soon as possible? People are just waiting to hear this info and why would they want to risk people buying something else due to lack of information? It doesn't make any sense to me, unless they know that the price is going to be high and that will turn off would-be buyers anyways. This is information that could have been made public weeks (if not months ago) but Asus has chosen not to do it. What is the thinking behind this move?

No.... because the ordered them but Taiwan hasn't given them the final price yet and with that would come a good ETA....

But I've said a bunch of times, the price is going to be lower then the V6... most likely $2100.....

    Thanks,

Not to get snippy or anything, but wouldn't it make more sense for everyone with questions about the W3 to simply do a forum search, rather than making multiple threads? I'm as excited about this model as anyone here, but Justin's answered most of these questions already in the large thread...

I understand that ASUS Taiwan hasn't let ASUS USA know the price yet. I know Justin has said that. That wasn't my question however. My question is why they havn't let ASUS USA know the price or the specs? If ASUS USA has them they will release them, but they don't. So the question more specifically is, why hasn't ASUS Taiwan released the specs and pricing to ASUS USA?

This isn't about the "specs"... the specs are known.. it's a W3v, basically identical to the internal specs of the V6... and the physical dimensions and so forth of the other W3 models you've seen in Europe and Asia.

Asus US orders the configurations they want from Taiwan and in that respect they are like you guys ordering from us... the order needs to process and we need to build a system and get it out to you. The only difference is, they might be able to estimate the price, but nothing will be final till production is final.

As far as the configuration goes.. even when Asus tells us what they ordered, we take that will a grain of salt because often the units end up coming with something screwy.. like different ram or a hard drive. So, when Taiwan doesn't confirm to the US that their order is in and this is what they're getting... I don't want to speculate.

    But, I think we're looking at a 1.7ghz cpu, 60gb/5400rpm hdd, and 512mb ddr2 400.......... most likely $2099.00..... most likely atleast 3 weeks (still).

Basically, Taiwan doesn't need to give the US anything. They get their money and the states will get their notebook...... it's not like the US office can go anywhere else. Understand that... Most people don't get to know that much about production and delivery... Most people won't hear about a product until it actually shows up in the states. So either consider yourself privledged or don't pay attention to it till it's here [ :)]

    Thanks,
    Justin

I'm not 100%.... the configuration was going to be inbetween the W5 and V6.....

But from what I hear, the W3 is cheaper to build than the V6 is (if we consider it in a barebone form).... so at the same configuration, it'll be cheaper..... then depending on where they want it situated price wise will determine cpu, ram, hard drive..

Till I get the absolute confirmation, I don't want to say.. this is this and that is that. It's going to be a good either way.

    Thanks,
    Justin
