    hi.

i am new to this forum. I think this site is great. I am thinking of buying an Asus F3SA-A2. It apparently comes with 2gb ddr2 667 ram. i would like to up it to at least 3gb ram but i do not know anything about the internal workings of the notebook itself. I don't know if i would have to buy a 2gb stick or whatnot.

my question is, what should i buy because if i buy a 1gb stick of ram and try to put it in when all the slots are already taken...then it'd be a waste of money.

    Thanks a lot,
    kurosaba

It's a two slot board. Depending on the configuration you're getting, you may or may not be wasting money buying the 1 gig stick. According to the specs I'm reading online, it usually comes with a single 1 gig stick and 1 gig of Intel Turbo Memory (which as far as I know isn't taking up the other slot). So that would leave one slot free for a 1 or 2 gig stick of RAM. Whoever you buy from, a reseller or ASUS directly, you should be able to ask for specifics about how the RAM configuration is going to be coming to you.

You can use CPU-Z to determine which RAM slots are occupied with what. Also check the ASUS Info Booth (link in my sig) for a guide to upgrading RAM.

The Asus F3SA-A2 has two Ram slots, both occupied by 1GB sticks.

I just bought mine the other day, and with it I purchased a Kingston 2gb ram stick to replace one of the 1Giggers - but I think there may be some compatability issues...I haven't narrowed it down to the ram for certain yet, but I will by tonight or tomorrow I hope

I was having severe gaming (and 3dmark06) issues with the Kingston ram in - I have since put back in the original stick, and in the limited time I have had since, the games haven't crashed, but my testing is far from extensive enough to be conclusive (I was getting the infinite loop driver error, or unspecified lockups a lot previously). I have one more game to install then I need to redownload 3dmark06, so by midnight tonight I should have a more solid idea as to if it was the ram or if I have a dreaded dysfunctional HD2600 inside.

So,if you happen to learn of a definitive 2gb stick(s) it supports, let me know too please :)

I was actually going to post here and ask, but the a2 doesn't seem to have a lot of posting history.

Since Asus advertises the fact that it can support 4 gigs in those 2 slots, I am saddened that they only reference 512 and 1gig recommendations in their support section - a phone call to Asus will probably be in my near future since I don't have a local supplier.

Be aware that it may support 4GB, but it won't use all of them in a 32-bit OS... don't waste your money on 2x2GB, just buy 1x2GB for a total of 3 GB.
