Maybe I missed something but I don't remember seeing a post about this in the forums. Even on MilestonePC it's still listed as 2x512MB. I bought it around July 3 from ncix, shipped a little later.

I noticed on boot that I was running single channel and downloaded CPU-Z to investigate why...turns out I have 1 1GB DIMM, meaning no dual channel for me. Darrick, that would explain why my 3DMark05 scores are a tad lower at equivalent settings ;)

I guess it's good for upgrading purposes but a part of me doubts whether I'll ever upgrade.

Eh? that's nice.... I wonder if it's an A8Jm refresh? ... anything else different than the regular A8Jm?

Well, you might wanna upgrade when Vista eventually gets released, prob require 2 GB minimum and 4 GB recommended hahahaha

^ Ditto, A8Jm-H009H. In response to the above, I'm not really angry about it, I'm kind of ambivalent. I was in a similar bind a while ago with my desktop which had 1x512 RAM (in the days when 512 was enough) and I sort of wished that it had 2x256 for dual channel.

I mean it's good for the future but that doesn't help me now and the simple fact is that it's slower lol. How much is a 1GB stick these days, and how can I check compatibility? Would speed and timings be enough?

From what I've read, in real world usage dual channel gives a very incremental performance increase. 5% or less. Although in certain memory tests it does give 60-85% performance boosts, however these aren't very good simulations of normal computer usage

I think you should be happy that it's 1x1GB, since most ppl don't want 2x512 (upgrades meaning have to discard either 1 or both mem sticks) :)

1 GB notebook RAM isn't too expensive nowadays I think, you prob can check some of the online sites, I'd say about 100-150 bucks?

You might have to open up the RAM compartment to check the model of your RAM stick and try to find the same one to ensure compatibility.
