Like many I have been struggling with the touchpad on my new Asus UX31A Touch. I have it usable but usable isn't what I am aiming for, it should work at least as well as the touchpad on my macbook.
I see references to Synaptic and Elan but when I go into the control panel and various settings options all I see is "Asus PS/2 port clickpad". How can I determine what touchpad this computer has and where can I get the latest and most reliable drivers, as well as some setup advice?
Thanks in advance.

Right click on the device and select Properties. You can use the Details tab and Driver tab to ascertain redundant info on the device. As for the drivers and advice/guides, your best bet (aside from the forums) is to go to Asus' support page for driver downloads for your model laptop.
