Please post here your favorite ASUS model and why it is your favorite. I like the brand and may be a convert to your club in the future, but would like to see what "the pros" use and like. I would greatly appreciate any comments, etc.

    Z96J for the 15.4" WSXGA+ screen and x1600
There aren't many laptops around with that config. Now, if only I could get it here in Singapore...

The W5F in black as of right now.

But I'm very fond of the W3J, V6Va and if a W7J arrives in black, then that might just take over my first place spot. A non-leather S6F is also up there. Asus simply rules :)

W3J is my favorite in terms of looks and performance.

although in terms of what i would actually buy, I lean more towards the A8

The S6F seems to look amazing and if i need a ultraportable soon i will get myself one of those.

And W3J that i own is also a very good machine in all areas and comes in at second place.

And one more question...where's the best place to buy an ASUS notebook? Any suggestions and/or explanations as to why would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again everyone at the ASUS forum!

W3j because it's superb and everything my W3v was not.
I believe the W3v (that I had for a short time) was either a bad one or a refurb...

I'd have to say I like the Z96J or S96J the most for price/value. The W2J and W3J are also nice, but seem a little pricey. And the V6J is also nice but seems a little pricey as well.

I know you guys are going to hate me for saying this here, but can anyone give me some reasons for choosing ASUS over SAGER? I'm not trying to disrespect ASUS, I would just really love to hear from the ASUS users on this particular topic. The NP 5760 gives great component-to-price value but I know ASUS' reputation is unsurpassed.

    Thanks again.

I'm a past Sager (Hypersonic) owner. Let's see... where to being... Clevo builds most (if not all) the Sager notebooks. It also builds notebooks for dozens of other companies (Alienware, Hypersonic, Prostar, etc. etc.) and they are literally thrown together in minutes. They don't feel very sturdy and the cooling (at least in the 5720) is absolute ****. Noisy and unpredictable. Asus is many times better. Everything Asus is quality. These people build PC components. They know what they're doing with their notebooks.

well, for 17", i would definitely go with sager b/c of its power. however, something more portable, 15" or smaller, i would go with asus, b/c the asus is more powerful in those sizes....sager doesn't really have anything to compare to the s96j or the w3j.

    good places for asus notebooks are proportable.com, geared2play.com, powernotebooks.com, c9tech.com, and gentechpc.com.

Thanks you guys for the REALLY fast input. I forgot to mention that the configurations I was looking at are probably impacting my perception of "value". I'm still debating over value notebook vs. performance. Part of me really wants to go value what with all the technology changes on the near horizon.

Just a thought, but If you wanted advice on which notebook to buy, you should have worded your thread/question differently. People take it more as a poll for their opinion on what they want as it is now...so you're not going to get the why you're looking for. If people knew you were asking because you're actually looking into buying a laptop (Asus or other) YOURSELF, then you'd get very different responses, that might be even more helpful to you. That's just my opinion.

If that really is what you want to know from us, then give us more specifics on your particular wants, needs, preferences, and uses. We'll be able to help you much better that way. :)

The V6 and W2 are very close up there, with the W3 close behind. If the LCD was only a tad slimmer, it'd be pretty slick!

    The M6(aka Z70va) was also a favourite.

You're right...I am actually looking for more widespread opinions in this particular thread. I just threw in some commentary in my last post in case there were some out there who would have anything to say about those comments. As far as suggestions on what to buy, I do have a couple of "What to buy FAQs" posted and have gotten a number of responses. But overall, I am looking to see which ASUS models are the most popular and why their owners love them.

Thank you all once again for reading and posting your opinions. :D

I can only comment on the V6J because it's my first Asus. But it's been great for me so far (had it about a month). Built very well, etc. I like the machine because you get a really big, beautiful screen with tons of horizontal AND vertical real estate... but still have a computer that is pretty easy to carry around. I think it's a terrific machine for people who long for a power ultraportable like the Sony SZ and others in that class, but feel that they need a full-sized screen. (Not many others in this niche, only the 15" flavor of the Thinkpad T60 as far as I know... that machine is technically superior in some respects, but I'm glad I got the V6J for its styling, price, and screen quality.)
