Bloatware is the additional software the OEM preinstalls in the PCs it ships. Good examples would be Free trials for AOL, or a preinstalled Norton Internet Security with a 30-day subscription, or small apps that are meant to enhance your computing experience but just end up being uninstall fodder (Asus Live Update, for example).

Bloatware can always be removed without issue, which is why it's called bloat, it just eats up disk space that can easily be used for something else.

EDIT: The solution for bloatware? Uninstall it :p. Then follow up with a good registry cleaner and defrag.

We call "bloatware" any unneeded application that the system comes bundled with, i.e., that is preinstalled on the Windows installation that comes with the notebook.

"Unneeded" is very user specific; some users might need one particular applications while others may not.

For ASUS, the typical things recommended to remove are ASUS Live Update, which is very badly designed and coded and rarely does anything, and Norton Antivirus Trial, which is a very bloated version of antivirus software. However, it needs to be replaced with another, lighter antivirus, for instance AVG or Symantec Antivirus.

Depending on your particular needs, you might decide to remove other applications afterwards. But I suggest you try them out and see which of them you can use and which not. Typical candidates for disabling are ASUS Splendid, the combined wireless/bluetooth control application (I can't remember the name now), the modem helper.

:) no worries. When you fire up your notebook and look at the start menu, and you see all this crap that you don't recognize, and ask yourself what is this crap. Well, that's bloatware :). It's nothing dangerous, just annoying.

Just make sure that, before you get rid of bloatware, you know 100% what it is and that you absolutely do not need it.

In this case, it is the best to do fresh reinstall of your system. And you don't have to worry about speed anymore in life :) (until next reformat is needed :p )

Bloatwares - Something that bloats your system, taking up precious memory and hard disk space, and pretending to be "Hey i'm useful!". Some native Windows utilities can do the job.
