you know by then there will be three laptops, all exactly the same apearance

one each by asus, compal and quanta

this vbi thing. I still recomend getting the asus one lol

    http://www.intel.com/reseller/mobile/vbi/matrix.htm

you know in all of this chatter about this machine and its price, I havent heard any of the sellers pointing out whats truly unique about the vbi machines

all of their replacement parts will be interchangeable, and CHEAP! you wont have to get juiced by asus for a new lcd if you break yours, its generic. new battery will be available at longs drugs eventually.

this is a good thing. this vbi thing is good. it might even be better to get the s96 over the z96 ( unless the z96 accepts s96 lcds also) becuase it takes all of the common building blocks. Id be interested if the z96 gets modified any to prevent any of these common building blocks or not.

i mean at its introduction not only was it the cheapest most advanced thing on the us market with a x1600 gpu, it also promises to be the first of a new kind of laptop that offers replacement parts at a store near you eventually.

when the other ones come out they may beat it in value, and eventually standard laptops will exceed its value possibly. but right now its pretty well spent money i would say.

im pretty sure i linked it a few hundred times in the what should i buy thread. Never quite seen anything so obviously better and cheaper than anything else out there.

Which site did you chose to purchase your Asus S96J from?
I've looked at both GentechPC and Powernotebooks.com
And I'm not sure which site offers better parts and better service.
Which did you get ur one from?

powernotebooks one comes with a 3 year warrantee.

i looked at your post history and saw you saying you wanted to pay 240$ for a dell 3 year warrantee

i also saw though that you are in south america so im not sure a us resellers warrantee is what you want. ask the owner if hell pay for shipping from outside of the us.

I think if this takes off right a year from now vbi might be a big selling point. I think intel has some seed money going into these introductory machines, and down the road vbi might make the machine MORE expensive.

youre going to see the laptop batteries come in single use batteries from duracell hard drives and optical drives are actually already universal.

purchasing a lcd and maybe even a upgrade lcd at compusa someday sounds pretty cool.

Indeed sounds like a big plan, i wish we knew the road map of future VBI models and plans with it.

Its only a matter of time, to which notebooks would be almost as adjustable as desktops.

Also as you can see, notebook prices have been dropping each year, the average price is dropping, you can get notebooks for around 1000$ give or take for customization and tax and warranty, but wow.

The S96j is pretty close to an example of a machine that can get real close to 1000$ in price :D

    Thanks,

I've heard great things about powernotebooks.com, but I went with GentechPC because their price was better, and I didn't need the 3 year warranty. Gentech has had amazing customer service, Ken has answered all my questions very promptly (most of the time within 10 minutes) and even called me in response to something I posted here. I would have no problem reccomending gentechpc to anyone, and am 100% satisfied with them.
