Just wondering what temp the w3v owners are getting on their CPU, I'm using HNC and under clocked at 800mhz I'm getting about 55 degrees C and at full speed about 65,

I'm not sure if this this high or what.

also whats the best duration you should leave you lappy on for, i mean does it harm it if you leave it on 24/7 or should you operate on the 12 on, 12 off basis. My w3v is my only PC so far its been on ever since i got it giving a rest ever day for a few hours. I have my NHC set to dynamic switching so it runs cooler when I'm not hammering it so it gives it chance to cool down.

At what voltage? At above 1.4V, I will get similar cpu temperature on my Z63a running at 800MHz. If I lower the volage to 1.3V, it is below 50 near the begining of 40s.

im running at 0.98 volts at 800mhz using NHC, if thats so then my w3v is running a bit hot,

I think most people who tried undervolting found that they could drop to 0.7V at 800MHz without any instability. I've been running with operating voltages between 0.7V @ 800 MHz and 1.084V @ 1.86GHz since last May. Under light use my W3A is currently at 41C, with room temperature at 22C. I am struggling to get the temperature up to 60C under sustained high load (but don't have a discrete GPU to help generate heat).

can you damage the cpu by undervolting, or is it only overvolting that will damage it.

it would be cool if someone who knew what they were talking about with NHC would post the best voltage setting to the appropriate multiplier, because i don't know what I'm doing and don't wanna mess anything up.

Take a read about undervolting in the Asus FAQ thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=25849#undervolt . You won't damage your CPU but if the volts are too low then the CPU will become unstable. Hence the need for soak testing with Prime95. You can't rely on other people's settings for your CPU, but the general experience is that recent Pentium Ms will run safely at below the voltage range issued when these CPUs were first released. [Recent AMD CPUs also undervolt - my desktop computer is running at a maximum voltage of 1.15V but the specified voltage is 1.45V.]

Yeah, I agree. .7 is typical @ 800 MHz. Mine stays at the low 40's when @ that clock speed.

    UNDERVOLT, man!

I get around 44C after about an hour of so of usage (Dynamic Switching).

It might also depend on your GPU. If Powerplay is running and you have the laptop plugged in, the GPU runs at a constant 400Mhz/250.0Mhz which drives my temps up. Powerplay doesn't offer dynamic switching, so if you have it plugged in most of the time, it's always set to Max performance and you'll notice a jump in temperature.

what about leaving your laptop on for prolonged periods of time?

I have a Z33Ae - I've been running 1.164v @ 2.0ghz as my max voltage and .70v @ 800mhz as my minimum voltage. I'm in the process of trying to shave some more off the max voltage with Prime95 testing.

    I have a 1.8 W3V and use NHC to undervolt the cpu (.732 @ 800mhz) & GPU.

Typically, after an hour or so of standard usage (internet, office, watching a vid) the CPU temp hovers around 43-45C.

I have a 1.73GHz pentium M, and I'm running .716V @ 800MHz and 1.084 @ 1.73. I think you can leave all but the lower and upper multipliers alone, as the CPU will be at either extreme, not hovering in between.

I get 43-44* when plugged in and at full speed on the CPU during surfing and such but the fan is on it's "medium" setting (just audible). I get around 40-42* when on battery, but the fan has not come on once yet.

Coincidence...I am using the EXACT same voltage settings on my Z63a (probably because we're using the same CPU)

    TWINS! lol

I was using a step down in voltage, as that's what I read about someone else using with the same CPU, but I brought it up one just for that little bit of a comfort zone

    on my z63a (close enough)

    800mhz @ .732v - 40c and at stock voltage 1.73ghz - 52c haven't tried undervolting the higher multipliers

I thought I'd add the I Prime95ed my 2.0ghz @ 1.100v for 9 hours last night with no sign of trouble. Unvervolt for the win!
