Well we all love our Asus laptop's, but it just seems they are not keeping up to date with the new tech.

Where is the DDR3 ram in these laptops? I really hope by the time I buy my next laptop they have that installed!

Anyone have any ideas when they might start doing this? We could all gain some better performance over this not so fast anymore DDR2 800 they seem to be sticking in every new laptop... :(

It seems they are spending the most money on the faster CPU's and better GPU's than ram. I guess you can't have it all for these nice prices!

simple, when they can start affording it in low cost/mass production or when ddr3 starts to prove effective would be the answer.

The gaming series will surely have GDDR3 video ram. The rest will most likely be the DDR2 variant.

Seems your a tad over enthusiastic about the real life gains of DDR3 vs DDR2, DDR3 is still maturing.

It cost more, it has higher latencies, and it offers next to nothing when it comes to performance increases. Asus has been producing the most cost effective and "bang for you buck" laptops around latley and using the much more efficent DDR2 ram is just one of the many pieces needed to do that.

In a desktop with a high overclock and the ability to manipulate the bios and do otherwise more demanding things you can extract a very small boost from DDR3 (still not enough to make the cost worth it) but the more lax settings on a laptop your not going to see any gains at all except the bill for the laptop :p

Ram itself is not a performance boosting piece of hardware if you think about it, its just a storage device and the main goal is to give data a temporary place to stay for faster access than the hard drive. The only time you really have a performance hit is if you run out of ram and the page file hits.

DDR3 doesnt do anything to change this, it just has a higher bandwidth so it can transfer stuff a bit faster, but on the same tolken it has higher latencies to slow it down some. Bottom line is in real life use you wont know the difference, only a benchmark would tell you.

DDR3 is still too expensive for not much of a performance upgrade.

DDR3 memory remains functionally useless at the moment. Why should Asus put pointlessly expensive memory in their systems if it forces them to raise their good prices?

    Pure Ego

Just like those 128 bit slow clocked GPU's they stick with 1 gig of RAM

Besides why not skip it and just use XDR :p
