    Anyone got any ideas? :(

There is no way I am buying it from here since everything computer related we get ripped off, after the money is converted an extra $500 or so magically gets added on... My country sucks :(

Australia sux? 100% agree there! us kiwis have been trying forever to get rid of u aussies, you make oceania and the south pacific look bad :p

the problem with what u want is that when u import this thing u will have to add GST (goods and services tax). this i think applies to anything over $300-500 which the G1 will most certainly be. you can buy from buy.com (not sure if they have it but i think they ship int'l but u have to send them a cheque or use google checkout with ur credit card) but u will pay ALOT for shipping. so this option will cost u shipping + tax which could end up to be $500

the best case if u wanna buy from overseas is get someone u know in the US to have it shipped to them then he can send it to u and declare the laptop as a gift with a low value (but if it gets lost, you lose)

If you buy from somewhere else and pay taxes and shipment it might even cost you more. What about warranty? Would you be covered?

Asus has a global warranty. You have two options, try to pretend its not valuble so that customs lets it through, the downside being if they catch it you have to pay a $50 fee plus the 10% of the value its insured for. Your other option is to have all the customs forms filled out then you will definitely have to pay. Keep in mind you will have to pay for intl shipping. I had friends send over my laptop, if you dont insure it customs wont pick it up, though you risk losing your entire investment if it gets broken or stolen.

customs may however ask you how much its worth if you dont put a $ value and demand you provide something, i once just wrote out a receipt and that was enough for them

I wouldnt bother with those. Just use www.staticice.com.au its the best price search website for aussie geeks, I think ive seen most those links mikey mike posted appear in there. He is still correct though, When I was thinking of getting the f3JP newegg had is almost $1000 cheaper.

every retailer that I emailed today either didn't know when the G1S is released in Australia, one said wait a month or two, another said mid-August...
So I've been considering doing the same, although I'll wait at least until they're released overseas before I think about actually doing it.
