Hey I am thinking about putting arctic silver 5 on my CPU and GPU, but I am new to this and I do not know how to go about putting it on.

How do I put on the Arctic Silver 5?

Is there anything important I should know before putting on the Arctic Silver 5?

In the following pic where should I place the compound at 1, 2 or 3?

btw this is the one I am thinking of buying:

1st, clean the cores thoroughly (the shiny parts). then use a pea sized amount of AS5 and spread evenly with a card, usually paper thin. then put back together your heatsink. From the pic you uploaded, apply it to 1 & 3.

Don't know which ones the northbridge, but thats the one with the thermal pad underneath. (Looks like a sticky thingy)

Do it on them, but not the one with the thermal pad. Clean out the existing thermal grease out with alcohol (it will be hard) and put on the AS5.

Sorry if this makes no sense, I can't write. :/

Don't forget he has to clean off the heatsinks, too.

And yes, after cleansing (I recommend ArtiClean for best results) apply the AS5 to 1 and 3. I've never looked at the G50vt GPU, but on my G51 the heatsinks didn't touch down evenly on the die, so when I did the ideal, thin AS5 layer I was hitting 83C+. You either have to do a thick(er) layer of AS5 or use a copper shim.

And if you're going to use a copper shim on the GPU, might as well use it on the northbridge.

I'd recommend ICD7 over the AS5, due to better performance (MUCH lower curing time) and you would not need to worry about the heatsink not touching the GPU evenly, because ICD7 is a very thick paste which should fill every uneven surface.

MX-3 (Google is your friend) is also a very competent paste.
