I'm after a customized G51 - Xotic is backordered and GenTech just sold out. Where can I go to get one asap?

And they're out of stock, which isn't very helpful. Useful answers, anyone?

alright alright, although i do have to say that modding the g51 is a waste of money, to create a g51vx-a1 with the specs of a g51vx-x2a will cost more than 300$ extra.
    on that note...
all of the custom resellers are out of stock of this item as the g51's were a killer of a deal along with double cashback. unfortunately however this means that there are none left at this time. Is there a reason you want the g51vx specifically. Not to turn you away if you have your heart set on a asus, but there are alternatives that provide the same quality if not better for the price.

I wasn't being sarcastic, I was serious. The other people who replied either didn't bother to read my post or made remarkably stupid suggestions. If there's an alternative, I won't mind, but I want 1 TB of space, and RAID0 is a plus.

Well, you can't have your cake and eat it too. If you want 1 terabyte of space, you can't RAID. If you want RAID 0, you're stuck with 500MB max. (At least until those new high-capacity HDDs come out).

Do you absolutely require the higher resolution and internal bluetooth that the resellers offer? It's easy to change out a CPU on a Best Buy G51, and dongles fix the bluetooth problem. With the components posted in my signature, my computer ran up to about $1500. (Add in another fifty-ish if you want to count my copper blocks, thermal tape, and MX-3)

Forge, sober up! 2X 500 GBs + RAID0 (*NOT* RAID1) gives you 1 TB. I more than absolutely need the resolution, the smallest monitor I have is 1680x1050, and I work with tools like FX Composer that're unusable without lots of real estate. And after $1500 I do not expect 1366x768. Can't say I *need* internal bluetooth, but I use a pair of motorola wireless headphones so it would be nice to to lug around a dongle.

    Gah. Confused 1 with 0.

Anyway, don't know what to suggest G51-wise. You could try maybe the X1A/X2A and lurk to see if they support quad cores (which would be optimal for the work you seem to be doing).

"Lug a dongle"? Dude, if that's the verb you use you must be like the size of my foot or something.

Ahaha, it's just that I'm carrying too much stuff around, don't wanna add one to that. Like I said, not a big deal, the screen res is the bigger one. And don't worry about confusing RAID0 with RAID1, happens to all of us. But you? I'm disappointed, I wasn't expecting it ;).

I guess I'll just have to wait for the A1 to be back in stock.

I'm so ignorant with computers it's not even funny. Don't let the fact that I'm stupid enough to drill my computer and slap copper blocks fool you.

    And Soviet? Yo' momma.

1 TB sure is a lot of space. Even with all the crap we never use that we have on this four year old computer we've still haven't used more than 110 GB of space. I guess I wasn't too concerned about hard drive space when I bought my RX05. Forgot how much Photoshop takes up, though.

Kind of a random comment, but it's late and I'm bored. >.>

Well, I need it. I carry around an external 500 GB drive with VMs for 2000, XP SP2, XP SP3, Vista SP1 and SP2, and 7 RTM - each with a couple of snapshots, and I need them all to test some software I'm working on. Since I have the option to move those to an internal HDD and lose the 500 GB external, I'd jump at it.

First, +1 for the Starfox reference. Second, it's not about loving these OSes, it's that the SW I write must support them, so I need to test on them, and VMs are awesome when used with VMWare's Visual Studio extensions allowing me to start a process in a VM with a toolbar button, easy remote debugging, etc. You should see the other setup used for a GPU/network intensive app I'm working on: Three G51-RX05s running XP, Vista and 7 (RC, will up to RTM next week) and connected to a Linsys AP that's in the same room.

if you are interested in getting a laptop asap then i would suggest looking at the sager 8662 or the m860etu (they are the same thing but people know them by both names), it is the closest thing to the asus g51's
