I have an S6Fm that has seen better days. Despite a tiresome search, I have been unable to find any machine that better suits my needs . . . so I'm going to buy another S6Fm.
I'm looking for model S6FM-1P056C (camel color).
The best deal I've found thus far is from DataVision. They want $1,599:

Has anyone seen this exact machine cheaper elsewhere?

Are you sure you want to buy a dated machine for the price of a recent one? I'm not saying it's a bad decision,. just think better about it.
I recommend taking a look at the U6S, it's a newer ultraportable offering from ASUS that seems to be quite good. Or some recent ultraportable W model although I'm not sure there is one.
You should be aware of possible problems such as: battery DOA (dead on arrival) due to very large storage times; in two years when you might want to change inverter, keyboard, fan and other "semi-consumable" components they will be out of stock everywhere etc. -
Poor battery life is keeping me from the U6 . . . Even with the bigger battery.
The newest S6Fm is Santa Rosa, 120 GB HD, A/G/N WiFi . . . so the specs are not bad.
I simply can't find anything more suitable, from any maker or at any price.
Plus, all of my existing extras can be used on a replacement S6F: like additional batteries, chargers, etc.

Yep, I rather agree with you. I didn't see the S6 was a Santa Rosa chipset.
If you rate the U6 battery bad, then there's no point in looking at other ASUS laptops
I don't know very well other makers, so I can't recommend anything there. And about the prices, I'm not from the US so you'll have to wait for someone else -
My thinking is . . . there must be an Asus re-seller out there with blowout prices on remaining in-stock S6F's (because they have been around so long).
Or mayhap there is a place where discontinued Asus laptops go for clearance?

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Unfortunately, your logic is incorrect when it comes to Asus' products.
Asus doesn't clearance their notebooks when the model line runs out -- occasionally they run rebates, but that only happens when Asus NA has a large amount of leftover stock that they imported to the US but the resellers can't move; else, it's original pricing. The S6 isn't likely to fall into that category, as it was not a high volume imported model to begin with. -

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Sorry about the distress this causes
. My comments are based on multiple discussions covering this topic during my time in the Asus forum over the past 2 1/2 years as well as posts from several Asus resellers during that time frame and watching how Asus has handled their product pricing; outside of the rebate issue I describe there have been no "clearance" sales as such, but retailers sometimes will offer small price drops on older products (Newegg as one example if you search through there).
Any older forum members around here from '05-'06 can feel free to offer their thoughts. -

Alright... well at least now I know. Currently I'm looking at the F8SV-A1 for 1,249.95 CDN.

Well, actually the S6Fm is Merom, not Santa Rosa. However, it has an LV CPU (as opposed to ULV), so its quite a bit faster than most Santa Rosa ultraportables anyways.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220211 Newegg has that one, but its uhhhh, pink, and the price is pretty high, and the specs aren't really that good. -
In Europe, I did see once a W3J at a "clearance" price of around 800 EUR (the original price is at or above 1500 EUR). Just before they went unavailable (they had been EOL for a few months). But that's Europe.
