After looking around and comparing several different notebooks, it looks like I'll be going with an Asus m50SV-A1. The one question I have about it is, does it matter what site I order from? I know Dell, Lenovo, and other companies offer huge discount codes that anyone can use, but I haven't seen anything like that with an Asus model.. probably because they're already at such a great price to begin with.

So, are there any real differences between XoticPC, ExcaliberPC, etc? Right now XoticPC has the option for a $60 savings or the external HD, so I'd save 60 bucks ordering from there I guess. Are there any other sites with better prices?

Alright, I was just curious if there was a site that offered a lower price than the ones I had found, guess not though.

I'm not complaining by any means though, it looks like an amazing notebook for the price. I was just curious to see if a great deal could be made even better.

I got a 3% discount at GenTech paying by PayPal E-check. I think Excalibur offers something similar. Loving my machine so far.

I think you'll find the sites that give input on these boards to all be excellent resellers. I bought mine from XoticPC simply because they were geographically closer to me.

My one advice is to not veer away from these resellers, because they offer far superior follow-up support than other internet resellers (even if you could save 20 bucks, it's not worth it).

    Just MHO.

I've always had a great buying experience with GenTechPC. I've purchase numerous notebooks from them and every time they make me feel very comfortable with my purchase. Their service is extremely fast (ships in less then 24 hours) and outstanding (very knowledgeable, to the point, and friendly).

But it's a spiffy one with buttons, not just the basic microsoft one! lol

And personally, I already have a nice logitech mouse that I would probable keep using. I'd end up either giving the free one to my brother or keeping it as backup.

It's either that or the 8gb SSD card... what would that be used for? Between the laptop HD, my 500gb external, various usb thumb drives, etc, I don't really have a use for more storage.

What would be incredibly cool is if you could boot from the ExpressCard slot (think SSD with just the OS - all other programs loaded on the SATA drive). I think ExpressCard has a throughput of 2.5Gb/s (almost the equivalent of SATA3).

So....I don't guess there's an option in the BIOS to allow booting from the ExpressCard slot? :p

Anyone have any ideas for applications of the 8gb SSD?
I think the best thing is if i could boot my OS off of it.
Anyone know if this is possible?

Otherwise i think i'll go for the epic mouse.

After looking into what appears to be the 8gb SSD that GentechPC provides w/ the notebook, the Transcend 8gb ExpressCard has only 18mb read and 8mb write speeds. It's not likely at all you'd want to load an OS on that even if you could, unfortunately. Transcend is using cheaper flash-based ram than high-end SSDs that are designed to be hard drive replacements.

It would be a neat concept if an ExpressCard SSD was ever released w/ higher read/write speeds.

Good luck on your purchase decision, humar.
