I was wondering where I could look up the latest recalls concerning ASUS ensemble and built-on notebooks? Which page in the ASUS website specifically?
Thanks.

There are none, so there isn't a page. The only recall Asus had in the past in terms of their notebook line at least was a voluntary recall on Z71 main batteries made between March of 2005 until November of 2005 and ONLY if they won't hold 90% of their charge...... most people who had a problem saw their battery drop to a max of only 60% over a matter of a couple months. I know we saw 2-3 dozen batteries get replaced by Asus, with the entire replacement paid for by Sony, but it was only for those with the problem.

hehehe...sony battery you say?

The Dell and Apple battery problems all stemmed from Sony batteries. I was wondering the same thing - My Z63A has a Sony battery - has anybody had any problems?

I realize that..... it doesn't make it funny. I answered that question in another post.

z63a battery historically was very relaible. I can count rma on my 2 fingers. The only laptop with a problem was z71v. The cells were manufed by samsung.

Although I'm going to mention this to you over im in a second...... the Z71 batteries that had problems used cells from Sony... I ripped apart one of the batteries this evening with a 56xxxxxx serial number that was outside of the warranty period and had this problem and it had Sony's model numbers on it. -
Do any of you guys know how many RMA's are on V6(V) batteries relative to other model's batteries?
I am asking this because my battery is acting funny again... 4% wear level but the battery never charge beyond 86%, and I already quit calibrating it because the process never ended after 10 hours. I'm waiting for a prepaid shipping package from ASUS. -
The V6J batteries are showing the same symptoms as the Z71. ASUS has exchanged my batteries twice already but the fault still exists. In less than a month, battery wear has jumped to 30%
I'm not the only one who has issues with the V6J batteries; there are so many V6J owners complaining about their batteries. I love my V6J, but this battery glitch just drives me insane. I used to squeeze 4hrs out of it, but now it can barely manage 1.5hrs
I'll have my batteries replaced a third time, but i guess with my luck that'll be a temporary relief before they start crapping on me again!!! x_x
Justin? Eddie? Anyone? -

First time i hear of it. Though i do remember seb from previous threads. None of our customers complained on this yet.

I, too, own a V6J and am having trouble with the battery. My laptop is only 3 months old and shows a 36% wear level. Although I usually run off of AC, it is rather annoying to only be able to run for 1 1/2 hours on battery.
-
I have read that when you run off AC and keep your battery installed you could prematurely wear out your battery. The battery has only so many useful cycles to it (usually around 100, I think), so when you run off AC, the battery will naturally slowly discharge, and when it discharges just a bit, the notebook will recharge it to full. Granted, this might only be a 1% charge, but continually doing this over and over will unnecessarily wear out that battery. I doubt this is the cause of your very severe wear, but just something to consider in the future when running off AC.

Those who may use a V6v/va battery in a V6j, may have more problems than others....... I'm not sure who may or may not be having that problem, but there may be an issue there.
All models across the board are going to have instances of battery problems, because it all comes down to the technolgy of the battery.... ok, a few people in this thread said they've had some problems..... Seb's problems outside of the battery are way above normal to begin with, so although he's replaced his twice, he's certainly the odd ball when it comes to the V6. Other issues however aren't even worth talking about unless you've already taken the time to call Asus and mention it to them and get a replacement. 10% over the first year is normal... anything more than that over half that time is not normal.... That's what a warranty is for. If the the thing was supposed to not work correctly, there would be no warranty........ and if nothing was ever supposed to break, it would be called a guarentee... That's the easiest way to explain it.
What happened with the Z71 batteries was a physical design flaw in the manufacturering process...... an entire batch of batteries were physically made wrong and caused a problem on a large scale....... Those batteries came to Asus and were put into system boxes..... the problem was that other batches of batteries were also used at the same time, so the "bad batch" was maybe put into ever 3rd or 4th box over a period of months. Look at it this way...... one poor woman who's job it is to put the battery in the accessory box has a pile of batteries to use...... other people are probably in line with here doing the same thing from their own pile......... one pile basically came from that bad batch and the problem is widespread. All of the batteries are tested and therefore should work out of the box, but life testing can't and shouldn't be done on them..... so losing life over a period of a couple months even isn't something they can do anything about except just replace it for you. They have a certain warranty with the batteries makers, so it's not a big deal for them, but a certain percentage of everything should have problems.
There is no recall on V6 batteries, but if yours doesn't work, Asus will replace it if it's still under warranty. -
I have tried V6V batteries on the V6J and they don't wear out prematurely, but thing is they charge funny (erratic). Pop a V6V battery in a V6J and monitor the charging using NHC, you'll see...
Euh, Justin, don't tell me my V6J is a lemonQuite a few people have complained about the abnormally high battery wear and maybe we should consider that there might actually be a flaw. Getting my batteries replaced every 2-3 months is not a proper solution. I fear the next time i nag the ASUS techies they'll kick me out :'S

Could this possibly be a hardware issue? Perhaps the voltage regulator (or something like that) inside the notebook is causing the problem, not the batteries.
-
Could be the charging circuit. But the bunch of monkeys over here (OZ) haven't yet been able to figure out wtf is wrong with my precious ><;;;

"quite a few people" is what you consider... what... 5.. 10? Out of 10,000? Seriously though, it's not widespread. You're pretty much the only person I've seen who's gotten two bad batteries, so I chaulk that up to either bad luck or horrible support down under. I know both of us could argue that based on the help you asked me for when you had them take a look at your unit, but of all the systems we've sold in the last 5+ years, I'd say we've seen the following:
24-25 Z71 batteries go bad (that was only carried for 9 months)......
2-3 M6 (Z70) batteries go bad (that model was carried for almost 3 years)
1-2 W3 (Z62) batteries go bad (those are the most popular models of the last 1 1/2 years)
5-6 S5 / M5 (Z33) batteries go bad (a TON of these were sold over a 2 1/2 year period)
So, I think the problems are normal, outside of the Z71, but I can't really comment on more than what I personally see here and judge that against what Asus says they see in the US on a whole and then what Taiwan tells them they see from the world wide offices.....
I think getting two bad batteries is unlikely....... causing me think something with the motherboard or even your power supply may be causing a problem. One person having back to back bad batteries (outside of the Z71 which we know physically had a problem in that one batch), it would lead me to want to look into other things. Perhaps the guys down there just don't know what they're doing. I know support outside of the US can less than perfect, but I've never seen any of the problems in the US that some others have seen in AU, the UK and other places. -

Ditto tho unforttely the z71v returns number well over a hundred for us now. The rest are about the same

We lucked out with the Z71's for the most part. Our largest order of them came from a shipment completely void of the problem..... otherwise I can certainly back the fact that our Z71 battery numbers would be even further askew than they have been. You though Eddie, as I recall, got one of your larger Z71 shipments right square out of the bad batch...... very unfortunate. -

actually the bad batteries were starting with serials 53np, 54np, 56 on more. Ranging in purchase dates for almost a whole year.
