Its sold out at newegg, so there has to be some owners out there. I know some of us are curious (I know I am) if there are any changes to the A8J laptops (LCD type/maker) and other stuff.

The A8Js replaces the A8Jp, get that instead.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834220107
that's better anyways. -
The A8Jp is an older "model" then? (I'm on a budget, which is why I'm leaning towards the A8Jp).
-
no they are the same age.
they are actually the same computer same motherboard etc with a different video card.
newegg has the a8jm for 1400$ with the t2400. sort of hard to sell that at the same time as the a8jp.
As far as a8jp owners, I think there are about 40 in north america and I dont know how many come here to the asus forum.... -
There are a few of us who hang out here. I've had my A8Jp for two days now and have been very happy with it. I hear conflicting things on NewEgg being sold out. Some folks have found them sold out one day, and in stock the next. So it appears they may periodically get them restocked.
Other than my initial experience described HERE, it's been great. -
Hi,
I also bought mine off of NewEgg. Ordered it on the Dec. 21 and received it Dec. 26. Very happy with it thus far and can handle the 2004-2005 games like Sid Meier's Pirates, Freelancer, Age of Empires III, and Age of Empires III: Warchiefs. The air vent is on the right side and does get pretty hot when playing these games for an extended period of time. I haven't tried any 2006 games, but I'm sure it can handle them as well (with some tweaking). I was deciding between the A8Js and A8Jp...went with the A8Jp since its basically the same thing and I didn't really need XP Pro, or 512MB dedicated video memory. I'm still playing around with it and getting comfortable with it. If NewEgg gets more, it would be a good investment if you are looking for a well rounded notebook. Hope this helps.... -

Another A8Jp from Newegg here. Ordered when there were about 57 left. Works well for me. I have played Company of Heroes at 1280X800 with most everything turned on. I have played at 1440X900 with the majority of eyecandy turned way down. I have used it for DVD conversion to Xvid. The bluetooth works well etc etc. It just works.

I ordered the A8Jp a few days after i heard about it here. Its my first laptop so i cant really judge it to others. I did have a few problems with it. Sometimes it freezes on me with CS:S = /. Then when that happens, the audio is off. Not just for CS:S but for like itunes and anything that uses sound. Does anyone know why it freezes on me with CS:S?
but thats my only problem with it. Other than that, i enjoy this laptop. -
I ordered mine on 12/26 and had it on 12/29. When I checked NewEgg on 12/30, they showed as sold out.
Now that my A8Jp is in shape, I'm getting happier as time goes by. I may replace my desktop with it. Since getting a wireless keyboard, I'm using it most of the time. Very pleased. Trying things as they come up and am very favorably impressed. Burns CDs better than my desktop. -
I bought one and had it delivered overnight. Overall, i am very pleased with it. The only problem that i have had is that half-life two had a bad habit of freezing for no reason, but that is probably because i am stuck with 56k till i get back to campus and haven't bothered with updating video drivers and all that. The air vent on the right side is a definite plus for me, it keeps my hand warm when im in my cold room

So I thought about it a lot, and I canceled the order last night on the Asus, thinking that I would get a Sony. I sat there and watched it go in stock, and out of stock in 30mins. I REALLY regretted canceling it. Few minutes ago... it went in stock and I jumped it... again. (I hate being indecisive... its driving me nuts haha).
-
Indecisiveness with technology is understandable. You want to get the best bang for your buck, the cool factor, the "not wanting to miss a great deal" factor, etc.
What helped me decide was a lot of research and posting responses to the FAQ. Mine is here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=94648
Then I researched some more. Looking through the What Notebook Should I Buy? thread is really, really educational.
If it's any comfort, after three days with my A8JP I feel like I definitely made the right choice.
It really helps if you know what you are looking for, how much you can spend, and know the difference between what you need and what you want. -
I wouldnt be indecisive. I think you have an easier decision than i did when i bought my computer in october.
What gives you the most computer for your money? that a8jp has 1 gb 120 gb hd x1700 and 1440 x 900 screen t7200 cpu. wifi and bluetooth.
What else is there like that? There is only the hgl 30
Theres nothing even a discounted out of date sony can do to compete with that value. Youre only going to get the sony or a w7j or xpx 1210 if youre sure thats the size you need.
Thats all you should have to figure out. If the 14.1 inch size works I think thats the one to get.
maybe get one of the last core duo w3js for 1400$ from btotech. Ive also seen the a8js go for 1450$ -
Maybe indecisiveness was a bad term to use. I really did look through the A8Js thread here, and I looked at what people said. I guess I just took the "bad" comments people said and made it more worse in my head than what the original people said. (I think I mentioned that a bit in my thread on "What Should I Buy?"). Honestly, this is my first notebook, and $1300 is still a considerate amount of money and I'm buying a non-mainstream notebook. I guess it would be better to say its first time buyer's fear haha.
But thanks sanpabloguy and stamar. Now hopefully newegg will process my order faster this time... -
asus is almost as mainstream as it gets.
Its one of the 5 largest taiwan laptop companies that make over 95% of everything.
They make some sony vaios, macbook, and toshiba sattelite.
It is only the Asus brand thats relatively rare in north america. -
You might have first time buyer's fear. You won't have any buyer's remorse, though.
Good system, solid, Asus 2-year warranty. Great support here at NotebookReview.com. Folks have been very helpful with any questions or concerns. -

A8jp owner over here!! I've had mine about a week or so and I love it. It plays all my games just fine. I submitted a review to Andrew, just waiting for it to be published here.
Unbeatable deal for what you get.

does anyone have any communication back from newegg wrt the A8jp becoming available again? Anyone email them ????
-
well, one of the things ive noticed with the a8jp is the keyboard. i preferred my other keyboard on my old laptop, and though this one is nice, it does tend to bother me sometimes. i type relatively fast, and maybe its becuz i bite my nails or something, but every now and then my fingers tend to snag onto the bottom of the keys...maybe its because i have some lazy typing or something?
for everything else, i got the a8jp becuz it was mentioned here, and i was about to post on NBR when i saw a topic that mentioned the a8jp and i instantly jumped on it. so far, its really really good, except for some of the useless programs that come with it.
what i did notice was the right side, where the hot air would come out from. i dont have much space, so i always feel the air on my hand, and it becomes a nuisance, but not a big one; i'll have to get used to it. another would be the fan...oh man, the fan. its sooo quiet
i just went to the library with my laptop, and could barely hear it *that was if i was paying attention to it*. another person by my side also had his laptop, and man, the thing roared, which i bet would be pretty distracting. other than that, i like my laptop, and for the price, its well worth every dollar i guess. if its extremely quiet you'll hear the fan though, just a small, pleasant sound, unlike the other guys which hissed.
also, the top part of laptop does tend to cave in, and im still skeptical if i want to take it to school with me, lugging my books and whatnot with me...i guess there are things for that which will prevent it from messing up, and i dont know anything about them, so i wont say any more
hope that helps a bit -
i would use the bag that comes with it
I would not put it in a backpack with books.
oh and as far as the a8jp.
Ive been on auto notify since around christmas with newegg for just this one and the g1.
And they never have sent me a notification. But they have had some in stock in that time. So I can tell you auto notify doesnt work.
Newegg is showing the a8jp as out of stock, but they take the g1 off their site when its out of stock. I dont know why, does this mean you can rain check the a8jp? Or, they want to display that they carry it even when its out, but they dont want you to see the g1 exists when its out so youll buy their f3jp ( that is my theory) -
i emailed newegg about availability 2 nights ago, and asked if they were going to take it off the site if they didnt have an ETA , since that is their policy. I have'nt heard back from them as of last night, and wont check my email until later today when i get home, but from the looks of it, its best to keep hitting refresh on that page every so often to check availability.
I might just suck it up and pick up the F3jp with a 15.4" WSXGA+ screen instead, except its $300 more !
Where's the A8Jp owners?
