Which of these ASUS models would be in my best interest...The G50 from Bestbuy which obviously is spec'd superior, has only a 1 year warranty and geeksquads a JOKE so not worth extending....

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9173262&type=product&id=1218044029168

    G50Vt-X5 -1 Year warranty

Or a lesser spec;d ASUS around the same price but with a superior 2 year warranty.... from newegg

    F50SV-A1 - 2 year warranty

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220525

What would you do? Forgo the extra warranty and buy the G50? or play it safe and buy the F50?

if you are not into gaming or anything graphic intensive, i see no reason why not to get the f50.

Simply www.Xoticpc.com Asus has its own warranties with accident forgiveness, + you can customize to whatever specs and price you want... :D

    Also see www.Gentechpc.com

I don't do non manufacturer warranties of any kind. Appreciate the suggestion but i don't deal in non asus warranties. Also to get a 9800 GS i would be paying near double from Gentech or Xotic since they include a bigger HD/faster CPU that is more then i need and out of the $$ range.

Oh ok, but those two sites I linked to you have Asus warranties, did you see at the bottom of customization... They go through Asus and are very reliable sites, especially Xotic pc

Even that being said there prices are near double what i am looking at. If i went with the F series I'd take a look. But if i decide on the G series there G series models are far too expensive.

Ok no problem, sorry I couldn't be more help... But IMO the G50, not only is it better looking but I would say with a 9800gs, a much better performer than a 120m

    Correction: www.gentechpc.com

All Asus notebooks sold by authorized Asus resellers will come with a manufacturer warranty. It is in my experience from purchasing numerous Asus systems that it's best to avoid purchasing from Best Buy or Newegg when it comes to Asus notebooks. Resellers tend to be much more forgiving and customer service is generally outstanding to beyond expectations; especially for Gentech. Gentech specializes in only Asus notebooks and they truly have an extensive knowledge on the products that they sell. Going through a reseller also adds a further layer of technical support. It is often much easier and faster to get hold your reseller than from Asus themselves.

An assemble notebook (like the G50) comes with the best notebook warrenty around when bought from an authorized Asus dealer like gentechpc or xotic.

1 year accidental, dead pixel policy, 2 year standard, paid shipping for RMA ect.

That accidental warranty is something crazy, like your mom runs over your laptop with the car and they will send you a new one. The warranty alone probably makes the small price increase worth it, but if you get an A1 from a reseller instead of an X5 from bestbuy you also get better equipment installed in the notebook.

I do not see the G50VT-A1 on sale right now though wonder if Asus has already stopped sending that model.

Go with the BB model, it's a great deal right now, might be the best bang for your buck.
ASUS laptops are built very solid but if you really want to know about the quality just go to BB and play around with + you can also get the BB store warranty.

The Bb store warranty is useless. As per Gentech again...appreciate it but please stay between the suggestions i have as IF i go with an F or N series i will defininitely look at gentech or Xotic. But there G series are WAY high priced and out of my range at the moment.

The G50 at bestbuy is 899$ Where as Xotic and Gen are upwards of 1599-1699$ way outta reach seeing as how i just bought a Macbook for travel.

Any "DOA" kind of problem is going to show up in your first week or two of ownership during which you are fully covered by Best Buy's return policy. NewEgg has a NO return policy except on DOA - it's exchange only (read their terms), so if you decide you just don't like the machine it's tough rocks for you. Best Buy stores are in every city and large town so the Geeks, poor as they may be, are never far away, even if you travel.

Buy the G50... I'd take one year of walk-in service over 2 years of mail-in any day.

I'm gonna break away from the pack here, and tell you to get the F50.

Last November, I was in the same exact position as you. I could get the G50 from bestbuy for 999 bucks and get a superior laptop, spec-wise, or I could get the N50 from Newegg for $950.

I've dealt with Bestbuy's warranty before. If it's a small part that fails, like RAM, CD drive, or HDD, they're very good about it. Just 5 months ago, my dad's laptop's hard drive died. It was a 120GB drive, and we took it to Bestbuy to get it replaced. They replaced it with a 250GB drive, for free!

On the other hand, the big expensive stuff sucks getting replaced by Best buy. My cousin also bought his laptop from bestbuy. His computer's motherboard died, and best buy waited a month and a half to repair it. Fast forward about 4 months. Same thing happens. Again, it took BB a month to repair it. I understand that it'll take a while for them to get a part if they don't have it, but for it to take a month to get there and fix it? That's ridiculous.

In other words, Best buy's warranty is OK for the small petty things that you could buy easily, but when it comes to the expensive things, they screw you.

I haven't had to use Asus's warranty yet (Thankfully) So I can't comment about that.

Now about the computer. I was worried that the N50 (with The 9650m GT, almost same as GT120) wouldn't be strong enough to handle games at high settings. Nope. I can max every recent non-crysis game with at least 35FPS, at 1280x800. So it will be strong enough to game, don't worry. I think that the F50 has a 1366x768 resolution, almost the same as 1280x800. You should be able to get at least medium-high on most games at that resolution.

    Enjoy :)
