I think I'm either going to get an ASUS or a Fujitsu. Rather than fill out the survey I did before, these are the main things I need:

13.3-15" display (widescreen preferred but not necessary)
    80+ GB HD
Relatively COOL bottom so I can use it on my lap without burning like my current Dell XPS does.

I don't need the latest and greatest. I like a nice looking notebook but quality > looks to me.

I will travel with it so prefer to keep it at around 6 lbs or under. A smaller power brick is nice too.

I mainly do web-based applications, with a little Photoshop mixed in so I don't need too much processing power.

Which ASUS would fit the bill?

    Thanks!
    Scott

w7, w3j, w5f, v6j. there are more built on series but those are the best built and nicest looking. personaly if you want the best looking and best built i would say w7 or v6j

I think SRD hit your options right on the nose, but I think even though all of those notebooks are great - they're all also tottally overkill for your application..... except maybe the W5, but you didn't say you'd go down to a 12" screen either....

One big thing you want to consider is if you want a widescreen or a regular ratio -- regular ratio is still prefered for web design, but if that's not what you're doing, I wouldn't worry about it (but the V6 is the only regular ratio left in the lineup).

You really can't go wrong, so pick one of those that you think you'd like and you'll have more than you need and a great system.

If you want to get off cheaper you could get a Z62f - 14" widescreen with integrated graphics and customizable... that would be the cheapest way to get exactly what you need and would do just fine.

He said looks are important though. Def the v6j is the best bet i think. and while the z62 is a good notebook. It kinda looks well acerish.

The W3V would be a good option. 14" ~4.5lbs, has the x600 which is not a power hungry GPU, so it won't heat up like your XPS does, but is still capable of programs like Photoshop, and it's considerably cheaper now that the W3J is out. Plus it's quality and build is great.

12" is too small as I need to login to some remote computers with logmein.com and that tends to be small already. 13.3" is the minimum for sure. Thanks for the advice, I'll research it more once the storms pass and my crappy DirecWay Internet stays up for more than a minute at a time. (No we have no DSL or Cable out here...)

    Thanks!

Yea and it's god-awful. Better than dialup but dialup works when it rains hard... If I had any choice I would be gone in a second. Downloads are about 70k/sec? Uploads between 1-5k/sec? Not sure offhand but it's not very fast. And the latency is awful -- so even though a straight file download is OK, anything interactive is s l o w.

Why not get a thinkpad t60 ? Its build quality is superior, prices are quite low, especially now with the 200$ rebate, 3 year terrific warranty, looks very businesslike, cool, thin - everything you are asking for. Check out costcentral.com
