I'm trying to track down an Asus 15 " or maybe 16 "laptop that has these features - and their website can be a bit confusing - looking for WSXGA, good processor, 7200 HD, number pad, good dedicated graphics card (that can run AUTOCAD even tho more suited to gaming) windows 64 bit....and is not discontinued...can someone give me a model or two ? otherwise i gotta pick up a W500 and a USB keypad...much appreciated...

Take a look at this model: G51VX-A1
-
fine, fine unit -but the display is wuxga (at least here in Canada) which won't work for my daughter....wsxga would be max for that size screen..
-
any specific reason you are looking at only a wsxga screen?

Looks like daughter will be using it for graphics work. In art and graphic design those pixels are important.
I think I'm just making this more complicated, but this thread might help you find the right screen. The problem is I don't know if they have the right combo. -
thanks- the regular screen resolution may not be fine enough for 3d work - yet her eyesight is not that great to work with wuxga on a 15.6 screen - we'll be using a bigger external monitor at home, but she wants portability for school so the compromise is wsxga..was really hoping to go asus as the number pad is really handy for a 15.6 model instead of external...and yes daughter is in theatre design at university..

You should be able to make the default icons bigger, and i know you can make the default font bigger as well so more resolution shouldnt be too big a deal. you also can simply go to graphics options and turn down the pixels.
also, if it isnt a far trip to the US for you (or if bestbuy ships to you, or you have best buy), then they have a g51 with wsxga for much cheaper than the A1 version. -
While the G51Vx is probably the closest match that Asus has to offer, I'd probably recommend you stick with the Lenovo W500 or the Dell Precision M4400 as those system are more tailored for your daughters academic need, yet still very much capable of playing graphically intensive games. At the end of the day, you'd probably want your daughter to not fret over autocad issues rather than gaming issues at school.
Which Asus has these features
