I'm trying to decide which laptop to get for my girlfriend for law school. The W3J and V6J look to be tops on my list (slight overkill, I know, but I want the best for her and something that won't be obsolete in 3 years. From what I understand you can always underclock the vid card (?). Just having it there and it's ability to run anything at present should it need to is a plus), but I can't tell what type of screens they have from their descriptions. Being in a classroom with multiple overhead lights will cause plenty of glare from glossy screens and was informed that matte are a must for the classroom environment. Any help is appreciated.

There aren't much, Glossy is unfortunately(or fortunately for others) going mainstream.

    The Z70va, Z71v, z33ae, z61a, z81sp, z62k are the only ones....I think

As a law student who has used both glossy and matte screens, I fully agree that a matte screen is essential to reduce eyestrain. If you want a good gaming laptop with a matte screen, I suggest either the Asus z70va, or the Quanta KN1-PM.

Check out portableone they have a transreflective screen that is supposed to be very good. It cost about $300 extra, but you want the best. hopefully they will equip the new w3j with the transreflective.

Is a matte or glossy screen better for video editing or graphic design work?

Everyone complains alot about the glossy screens, but when you set them right, they often times have less eyestrain. I have used both of my brothers and sisters and they are better for reading hundreds of pages of information at a time. I think regardless that any screen is going to be uncomfortable for the eyes after a while. I guess in the end, its all in the eye of the beholder.

I have no trouble using my V6Va in class and in my office with mutiple fluoresent lights. I actually found it better on my eyes than my previous laptop with matte screen. I may be subjective, but I love my glossy screen. I wouldn't go back to matee screen.

Absolutely! I used to feel that matte screens were the only "serious" option on a notebook and that the glossies were asking for reflective trouble, but as long as you're careful not to position yourself with your back to the sun, they can be very easily viewed with minimal eye strain.
