I normally don't see built in mics being listed in the specs on many sites.. so far I've found the Z70V to have a pretty nice built in mic.

W3V / Z63 / W3A has one,
I think the W5 as well -

At this point....... I can't think of one that doesn't have a built-in mic....
-
I'm pretty sure they all do, I've went to an ASUS showcase, and they all had one either at the bottom left, right before the keyboard on the left or near the hinges on the left.
It's quite an unknown freebie

i can vouch for an m3np as well as a z71v too. Infact, i can't think of a laptop (that was made in the last couple years) that doesn't have a mic. I think it's about as standard as a touchpad mouse (so if some crazy company doesn't put in a touchpad, watch out, it may not have a mic either, haha). Even my tablet PC has a mic (i guess it doesn't have a touchpad or keyboard, haha).

Well the tablet has to as handwriting and voice recognition are two things that microsoft called for as a must on their design...... and obviously because a touchpad and a keyboard weren't going to be there.... but yeah, I can't find any of our systems without a mic even going back 3-4 years.

ummm my dell inspiron 5100 didn't have a built in mic
I'm pretty sure the Sony S doesn't have a built in mic -
^ agreed, i'm surprised many here say it's standard. My IBM T42 didn't have one, and neither did my Fujitsu E8020 have one either.
The reason I ask is because it sure is nice being able to record lectures and such w/o using an external mic. -
is it just me, or do other people think that recording lectures is a little excessive? ur going to lectures which takes time, then spend twice as long to listen to them again.. why not just pay closer attention?
i know there can be the key fact here or there, just my opinion tho.. especially since im an engineering student = lots of classes
-
I totaly agree. If you want to learn something really well, prelearn it (i.e. with the book) and THEN go to the lecture (way more effective then recording your lecture). Just make sure you get lots of sleep (i find i lack sleep sometimes and this prelearning technique results in extreme bordom in class and then i fall asleep).

its not easy for those whose first language isn't English
-
It depends. My first language is not English, but since I came to the US, I've had a problem understanding someone at school only once, and that's because he was not born in the US as well. I really think going to classes with a notebook pc is a bit too much - if you really want to record the lecture, get a voice-recorder - easier to carry & far better.
My 3 year old Inspiron 8200 has a built-in mic, and I'm really surprised the T42 doesn't have one (Yeah, finally something at which my Dell is better than an IBM
)
Which Asus models have built in mics?
