    Hello everyone,

I want to buy a new notebook soon, but I just cannot seem to make up my mind. These things don't come cheap so I would hate to make a wrong decision. Hopefully you can help me out a bit. The general questions:

    ----------------------------------------------------
    1) What is your budget? About 2500 Euro.

    2) What size notebook would you prefer? 15" - 17"

    3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook? All basis tasks such as browsing and office, but will also use it for gaming.

    4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk? I will mainly use it at home (roughly 90% of the time).

    5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games? Yes, I play rpg's such as Morrowind and World of Warcraft. I will probably play Elder Scrolls: Oblivion when it is released.

    6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? I definately prefer Asus.

    7) How many hours of battery life do you need? At least 3 hours would be nice, but battery life is not my primary concern.

    8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person? No.

    9) What country are you buying this in? The Netherlands.

    Screen Specifics

    10) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer? SXGA, WSXGA and perhaps WXGA+.

    11) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? I am not sure about this one.

    Build Quality and Design

    12) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? Yes.

    13) How long do you want this laptop to last? At least 4 years.

    Notebook Components

    14) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 120GB? At least 60 Gb, but the speed is more important for me. I prefer a 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm drive.

    15) Do you need a DVD, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-R drive? DVD-RW.
    ----------------------------------------------------

I did a bit of research myself and the following notebooks seemed interesting to me. If you have any other suggestions, please feel free to share them with me :).

    -Asus V6J
    -Asus V6V
    -Asus W2J
    -Asus V1J?
    -Asus W1J?

I find it very difficult to decide which one to buy. At the moment I am leaning towards the W2J because SXGA/WSXGA on a 15" screen might get a tad small for me (I checked it in the store and SXGA on 15" seemed doable, but I am not sure if it will be the same when you use it for a longer period of time). 17" does mean less portability though. An answer to the following questions could make it easier for me to make a decision.

-Is there a difference in build quality between these series?
-Are there less heat issues with the 17" models because there is more room for cooling?
-Is there a difference in screen quality between the 15" and 17" models?

I can wait another month or so if new models are going to be released that fit my needs, but not much longer than that.

If hope I supplied enough information. Thanks in advance.

(PS. My apologies for any English mistakes)

OK the Build of all those are equal. great. There is less heat with the W2J yes. the Screen on the W2J is probably better than the one on the V6J. but there was the last model the V6VA which had a wonderful IPS screen which is the best on the market but it isnt a core duo pc. the w1J and the W2J are about the exact same weight so you might as well get more screen real estate and get a w2j. they are all great models build is the same. so what do you want a 15in screen or a 17in. if you arent traveling much then i would say w2j.

I have a W2V and honestly its one of the most awsome units i have ever used. really dont have complaints. as long as you arent walking a mile with it then its fine. But as far as 17in laptops go its the lighest ever next to the mac 17 in
