Long story short..Bought the g73 at bestbuy(1200 bucks) It died 3 days later, they did not have any replacements in, and are phasing them out. So I am on the hunt again. I would prefer to buy one from best buy(have a best buy card, building credit) I see they have a few of them. I am now looking at the G60JX-RBBX05. Is it worth it? what would you purchase? This will be used strictly for gaming, I dont care about battery life ;)

Throw out what your suggestions are if you would please(sorry if this is wrong forum)

I have been away from the scene for quite some time :(

    That's interesting.

Honestly I'm not a gamer, but I'd have to go with the G73JH.

Thats what they told me! Wont be getting any more in :( I was kinda pissed lol!
I see new egg is out of the G73j-A1 too :(

I like i7, is the i5 worth it for a gamer?

    I do see a G51JX-X1
    Newegg.com - ASUS G Series G51JX-X1 NoteBook Intel Core i7 720QM(1.60GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 500GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M

Looks similar spec'd to the g73 but smaller...gpu is a tad worse?

The Core i5s are fine CPUs for gaming, but the GTS 360M is more than a tad worse.
Maybe you could check different BestBuy locations; others should have the G73.

If this is store-wide, the G73JH didn't last to long at Best Buy. Perhaps this is due in big part to the amount of returned units that were hit by the Creative SNAFU. Not that long ago I went to a Best Buy and I asked one of the Squeak Squad about the G73JH/Creative issue and they were oblivious, which didn't surprise me.

I purchased mine from Newegg, but had I known about the resellers that frequent these here forums, I most likely would have purchased from one of them. That's something for you to consider at this juncture.

I agree with the assessment lackofcheese provided.

i5 are ok for gaming, but quads are starting to make a difference. BFBC2 even recommends quads in its specs.

G73s are already being phased out? The 5870 seems to be the best card you can get in an Asus G laptop, coupled with an i7 and atleast 6GB of ram that thing is a beast. If size isn't a factor, get another G73 i think, heat is apparently handled much better too

Same here. Both GA locations have them in stock for pickup only. I just bought one.

    Cheers,

I bit the bullet and bought the G60, after a bit of research and what I will be using this thing for I thought it was the better match. So far I love it. nothing like the g73 I laid my hands on, but for sitting on my desk at work all day I think this will work fine ;)
