Right. I basically have my heart set on an ASUS, and the sole purpose of purchasing the laptop is to play Starcraft 2.

I'm buying it in the UK with a budget of around £800.

I don't think I want to get anything bigger than a 15.6 inch. 17 inch to me seems a bit too big.

As I'm not too familiar with ASUS models, anyone know of which one I should go for?

I would say either the N82JV or the G51JX? Anyone know the difference? I vaguely remember reading the G51JX's body is old?

Also, is anyone here familiar with how to buy ASUS laptops in the UK? It doesn't look like you can actually buy a laptop from their website.

    Much appreciated

    Get G51Jx.
It may have throttling issue which, idk whether it's resolved by now or not.

Cheers for the advice. So you're telling me to get the G51Jx even though it has throttling issues? Sorry - would you mind elaborating a little bit more?

What about the N82JV? And are there any other viable models out there?

G51J and G51Jx used to have a problem where it underclock their GPU/CPU automatically under heavy load situation, the probable fix was to wait for BIOS fix. I don't know if there was any good BIOS fix available since I left the discussion.

N82 has mid-tier range GPU and lower resolution screen which I don't personally like. You could have this thread moved to ASUS gaming notebook subforum for better response.

I have a G51jx-x5 which has the following specs:
1.6-2.8 ghz quad core i7 processor
    6gb ram
    1gb nvidia gts 360m graphics

I highly recommend it, I spent $1100 USD on it and it runs starcraft 2 very well
I'm able to play the game on high quality with an average fps of around 40 and it sometimes dips to around 20 during intense fights
When sc2 is set to medium, I have no lag issues with the game

I have to warn you though, asus laptops are known for being a lot bigger than advertised
my asus has a 15.6 inch screen but the body and size of a 17 inch laptop
And the 17 inch screen asus usually have bodies of 18 or 19 inch laptops

I see. And is it perfectly fine with the notebook on your lap? Or do you really have to have it on your desk.

Any gaming laptop is not suitable to place it on your lap when you use it for gaming.
