Hi guys my first post on here, i am looking to buy a new laptop after my faithful Dell Inspiron 6000 seems to be approaching the end of its days. I am looking at Asus as they seem to offer good spec for the price along with a good build quality and warranty.

The issue is that i am stuck deciding between two of their laptops. They are the following:

    and

    http://www.asuslaptop.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=Asus_Laptop_A8Sc-4P034C

I quite like the 14" screen model as it would be more portable, i am currently used to a 15" screen. Which ever i go with i will be choosing to upgrade the ram to 2gb. The 15" Asus has "ATI X2500 128 MB" as its graphics, could anyone tell me if this is integrated or dedicated please? The 14" one uses the "nVidia Geoforce 8400M G 128MB(384MB TC)" which i asume is integrated? Also are either of these compatible with direct x 10? Also thoughts oppinions about which to get would be welcome.

    Thanks.

Neither of those video cards are "integrated", they're dedicated/discrete.

15" notebooks are barely any heavier and bigger than the 14" models...I always recommend 15" unless you absolutely need the smallest thing possible.

I had the same problem of trying to decide between the A8 and F3 :). I still haven't decided (checking out other laptops at the moment), so I can't offer much insight on which to choose, but you might want to consider:
    http://www.nexus13.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=287&idproduct=1123
It has 2gb RAM installed and a three year warranty. Of course, the laptop's price is higher because it comes with these things.
Also, I've never bought from nexus13 (or asuslaptop for that matter), so can't comment on how good their service is.

Both video cards are dedicated, and both DX10 compatible. Build quality is essentially the same, these are Asus' budget lines but comparable to the Inspiron series. Your choice is really going to come down to the screen size you want, as the resolution is identical between them (1280x800) - how much do you value portability?

Thanks for that link Ultim4 that actually looks really good with the 3 years warranty and the rest of it! Would anyone be able to help me and Ultim4 out by letting us know if nexus13.com is an ok shop to order from? They are an Asus approved partner so i would quite good? Also, on the graphics card "nVidia Geoforce 8400M G 128MB(384MB TC)" what does the "(384MB TC)" mean? I haven't come across this before.

Both the A8 and F3 are Ensemble models so these will arrive at your doorstep factory sealed and any work needed under warranty will be handled by Asus UK directly, not the seller. 128MB is the dedicated graphics memory on board, 384 is the total amount if the card pulls up to 256MB more from system RAM as needed.
