Actually, I am starting this thread as I am quite sick of waiting, without any new updates. I urgently need a notebook, but are still waiting for the V1j or W1j.
I know ASUS is quite busy producing notebooks for Apple and their own line that's being released one by one.
Which models are next in line to be released right after the release of the W3J.
And which of the above mentioned models will probably released first?
Note: I'm from EU, not the US...
Hopefully Justin can shed some light on this case...

Well the V1j should be ready during the second half of the summer..... W1j should be ready in Europe in June....... If you had an idea of what you wanted, I could help a little more. The ensemble roadmap into June/July/August is still honestly quite undefined.

Thanks a lot Justin, for your swift reply!
In July I'll start an one year internship, and thus ultimately need it at the start of July...
I prefer the design of the W1J, but on the other side, both the specs and weight of the V1J are very attracting as well.
One last aspect is the price.
An option might be to rent a notebook for 1-2 months, and then purchase the V1J, if it's quite a lot cheaper than the W1j. -
Definately looks like the V1j will NOT be there in July when you need to buy...if you need to buy.
Renting may be a good option - then you can wait for the V1j to release and get the model that you want.
Keep in mind though that release dates could get pushed back and ultimately you could be renting a laptop for longer than you initially intended (or THEN be forced to go in a different direction) and you'll have spent some of your laptop fund towards a rental. -

Exactly....... The W1's design is nice....... and that's why the W2 is nice as well.. but the reason we're not getting the W1 back in the states is because of the weight compared to the W2... it's a heavy 15.4" while the W2 is a very light 17". So, the V1 is really the newest thing and takes advantage of new building techniques and new power saving components which ultimately allows the system to be thinner. I'd really suggest waiting for it if you could, but set aside a good chunk of time to wait for it...... I mean it could be October before you can get it... that's just how things go sometimes.... So keep that in mind, but shoot for August.

i have a question.
will there be an intel 64bit version of W2 coming out later this august? -
PROPortable Company Representative
..... Everything that Intel puts out will eventually be updated by Asus. With an update be out in August that's 64bit, doubt it.... maybe in January or February of next year... but the answer is eventually, obviously..

Thanks for the help guys! *Empulse starts again to wait patiently*

um, i have inquired about renting notebooks several months ago, and i was dissapointed in how that market is.
Trust me do not waste your time renting, the prices are rediculous and you'll get a terrible old ugly heavy laptop at high prices.
Just google it and you'll see, i am was very astonished at the prices.
Man if i would be able to rent a notebook for 2 months, i coulda just bought better one with the same amount of money. NO lie!, its literly 50-100$ a DAY!
Then you get a deal for taking it for a longer time...before you know it 1000-2000$ comes outta your pocket.
I know your timeframe is short and you want the best possible for your money.
What i can suggest is find a really old p3 laptop and buy that for 2-300$ and use that for 1-2 months and then go and get w/e you want after that. (V1J)
Also you can go to your internship without a laptop, and then get one later, but i dunno your situation.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
