Bout to sell my HP laptop and desktop and get a nice Asus laptop, and was trying to decide between two:

or

RAM and HDD dont matter to me, those can be upgraded easily.. mainly wondering about the difference between the GPU's.
Heard some people say the 9500 is a DX10 compatible version of the 8600?
I'm also leaning towards the one with the 8600 because of the SXGA+.
And if anyone has a suggestion for a Asus in the 1000-1400 price range they think is a better deal, let me know.

The M51 seems like a pretty good price for what you're getting. Seems from what I've been reading the 9500 is atleast on par with an 8600, plus you get 4gb ram and a 2.4ghz processor, that's a pretty good deal IMHO.

M51Sn-X2, If WXGA is enough for you
EDIT: Both 9500M GS and 8600M GS have DX 10, but 9500M GS is more powerful than 8600M GS ! -
why do you want asus?

you seem like doing the same thing as I am doing , I am interested in replacing all my laptop and desktop with one moderately sized powerful laptop like ASUs F8 SN.
I can not find the model here now so I may get SV , but I think SN is much better due to the NV9500 M GS.

this review is not so good but at least show you lots of photos of it .
if their benchmark is correct , the NV9500GS is more powerful than the NV8600GT. -

Good rep, and after a little looking around they seemed like the best value.. but if anybody has other suggestions, I'm open to them -
Since you are in US, the Dell XPS M1530 might be a better deal.

I couldn't be happier with my Asus. Besides being extremely powerful, it's also completely upgradeable. I bought it with everything in my signature for $1800 6 months ago.

$1,474 for one with a 2ghz core 2, 250GB HDD, 1 gig ram (ram really doesnt matter to me, as my dad accidentally ordered twice as much as he needed.. so I have 4GB sitting around), 1680x1050 screen res, and the 8600M GT 256MB
Anybody know if its the GDDR2 or GDDR3 ram in the Dells?
Whats the difference between the 8600M GT and GS? If the GT is better, how does it compare to the 9500M GS?
Also, is there anywhere to get that same dell (or fairly close) for a cheaper price than the dell website?
Kinda considering taking the extra financial hit (or waiting for an open box to show up when I'm ready to buy one) and getting http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220216 (anybody know how effective the turbocache on the 8600 is?) -
8600M GT GDDR3 256MB > 9500M GS DDR2 512MB
XPS M1530 > ASUS M51Sn-X2 -
OP , the NV 9500 M GS is quite powerful , I saw a couple of benches and was able to score pretty high although it had the GDDR2.
The NV8600GT in the Dell is the GDDR3 version, and I think it should perform a bit better than the ASUS card.
I like the Dell since I can choose T7250 with the NV8600GT to save money , but with many other OEMs ,I will have to choose T9300 (which I dont want to or spend so much more on)to get the NVIDIA.
Plus , I dont need to get unwanted huge HDD(I like smaller HDD and add an external one). So if I can , I always go for a Dell.
Which one?
