    N71Jq-X1 (has a bigger screen but lower resolution. Has USB 3.0.)

    or

    G51JX-X1 (has a smaller screen but better resolution. Lit up keyboard.)

    In terms of performance (CPU, GPU, RAM), both suit my needs. Does the N71 have a lit up keyboard? Which one has better heat distribution?

    No lit up keayboard for the N71
    The G51 will perform much better but run hotter

    Easily fixable with a cooler. I won't be doing any heavy gaming on it either so that's not a problem. My main question is if the USB 3.0 is worth it or not.

    Depends if you're going to be using the ExpressCard slot or not in the future. With the G51, you'll need to get an expansion card for USB3.0. Not so with the N71. However, there aren't very many USB3.0 items around right now and if you plan on replacing your laptop in a few years, it might become standard like USB2.0 is now.

    I don't have any use for the ExpressCard slot, no. Do any devices work with USB 3.0, like the flash drives that I have now or my iPod? Or do I need USB 3.0 specific cables and devices with USB 3.0 compatibility?

    Why not Asus G73? Way cooler tha G51 and just 17 inch with full HD res unlike N71...

    The specs go beyond my needs. I wont use it to its full potential and it'll be a waste of money.
