hi im totally new to notebooks, never owned one so i dont know much bout notebooks

i have a few newbie questions, are there diff models for diff parts of the world? cos there doesnt seem to be much written/discussion on the F3J notebooks? are the f3j's not released or is it too new or something?

also, does anyone know the diff between F3Jp and F3Jv? the only major diff i could see was 20gb in hdd and diff graphics card yet there seemed to be a major price difference?

also, are the 3 notebooks i listed in the title all core 2's?

also, why does the V1J have a 800gb hdd?

and can anyone give me a quick tip on which i should get? are the 3 fairly similar to each other or something? are the 3 good? or should i look at something else? im not looking for a gaming notebooks or anything

the reason i ask so many questions is cos i need to buy a notebook in the next 4-6 wks and have no experience regarding notebooks and dont know the things i should consider and look out for.

any help would be heaps appreciated

    cheers :)

Its a budget gaming notebook, and an ENSEMBLE, so its not customizable, so most people went for the S96j/Z96j.

Because of the upgradability concerns(mainly the GPU), thats why the price difference is evident, but I don't know the real difference in cost(is it like $200?), so I can't say.

    Should be.

    It doesn't.

Well, the V1j is much more expensive and more loaded with features, as the other two are more plain and one has a better GPU then the other. Perhaps fill in the FAQ in the WSIB forums.

Ok first, for the North American market anyway, the V1jp won't be available for a while...... so it's configuration here won't be known until they figure out where to position it price wise and then the configuration will be based on what they can put in it at the time for that price.

In terms of comparing it to the F3 series - it's like night and day. The V1jp is a high end, professional system with a great design and build quality...... and the F3 series is one of their more mainstream - sort of lower end of mainstream notebooks. The Jm/Jv/Jp has dedicated graphics which is a plus for a gamer perhaps, but in general from there it's just a matter of different dedicated cards in those models.... The "Jp" model will use a Merom 64bit cpu.

I think the f3jp also uses the ati x1700
I think of all of those listed it has the best gpu. However for some reason all scores on the x1700 show its slower than the x1600, and actual owners dont seem to exist here on nbr to talk about it....

I think the ja uses a detuned version of the x1600

the v1j is a very fancy notebook but in truth it is similar. very desirable if your budget goes up that far.

    ic ic thanks all

    http://www.asusnotebook.com.au/business-notebook.php
    that site has
    F3Jp for $1,949.00,
    F3Jv for $2,649.00
    V1J for $2,769.00
    all australian dollars

    coriolis:
-what does ensemble mean? and what things can you customize?
-that site says the V1J has a 800GB SATA 5400rpm Hard Drive, so then it must be typo then
-you say the V1J is much more expensive but its only 100 more than the F3Jv
-which is the better gpu? ATI or nvidia? ATI is better yet its in the cheaper notebook the F3Jp?
-and when you say V1J is loaded with more features compared to the F3s, what features in particular?

-so is one of the 3 i mentioned worth getting or is there something similar thats better?
-is there something major about any of them that would put you off purchasing of them?
-are they enough to last me at least a few yrs?
-are the specs fairly comparable to most notebooks out there at the moment?

-and is there any place that shows when these models got released?
-and why does the asus website show the V1J to be only core duo:
    http://www.asus.com.au/products.aspx?l1=5&l2=24&l3=0&model=1300&modelmenu=2

    yet at: http://www.asusnotebook.com.au/business-notebook.php
    its core 2???
