Currently i have a dell 1640, many of which you guys might know has super throttling issues which dell isnt even helping fix. So im really thinking of switching over. I got my eye on asus right now.

    The specs i had are.

    Intel Core 2 Duo P8700(2.53GHz/1066Mhz FSB/3M L2 Cache)
    4GB, DDR3, 1067 MHz 2 Dimm
    ATI Mobility RADEON 4670 - 1GB
    500GB 7200RPM

Im currently looking at the ASUS G Series G51JX-X1 NoteBook Intel Core i7 720QM(1.60GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 500GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M - Retail

How is this laptop? And do you have any other recommendations? Is there any throttling reported on the asus? And how is the customer support ect?

    Thanks

If you worry about battery life the G51 is not for you,In that case I would say to get an N61JQ

Is the screen resolution important to you? If 1366x768 is acceptable then check out a cheaper priced laptop.

    ASUS G60JX-RBBX05 on Bestbuy.

The ASUS G51JX-X1 is good but it is currently plagued with BSOD problems. Not sure whether it is fixed or still exists.. There is a thread about it in the Asus forums.

Those that have it say that its not as large as images might make you think - but I won't know for sure until tomorrow!

My first hands on experience with a G73 was today at a local Microcenter. Compared to the G72, it feels svelte. It's thin, and for the beast that it is, is relatively light-weight.

I was about to pull the trigger on a VAIO F11 series, but after playing around with the G73, I'm still undecided.

By the way, this was a X2, so didn't have the second hard drive (did have the blue-ray), but was priced at around $1450.

I would suggest you to go for the g73jh, i was in the exact same situation as you hesitating between the two. I am more than happy with my final choice (see my SIG). What do i like the most:
    - incredibly powerful
    - really quiet and cool
    - design, and fingerprint free

    what do I miss
    - rgb led screen was impressive, asus one is great but not as impressive
    - size

I would suggest that you should not buy the G51Jx model at least not until the bios problem is fixed by ASUS.
It has currently a bios bug which cuases it to show random BSODs with code 124 especially when gaming.

Here is a thread where you can read about it: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=458464

Furthermore, I read in this forum that people are also complaining about throttling problems with it.

If you are not going to game a lot then you can have a look at the N61JQ which 16" notebook but with 1366x768 resolution.
Or you can have a look at N71JQ which is 17.3" and has 1600x900 resolution.

I am not a big gamer on the notebook. For gaming I prefer a desktop. I went for the N71JQ as I wanted a notebook for work and this was perfect for me as it has higher resolution which I really need and furthermore 2 HDDs which makes it easy to backup the data.

Hey mystycs I remember you from the Dell boards. lol I used to have an XPS M1530 but ended up selling it (due to the possibility of the 8600m failing anytime) and bought a G51vx which I'm extremely happy with. If I remember correctly, I think you had an M1530 as well but managed to get Dell to exchange it for an XPS 1640? If not, then maybe that was someone else.

Although my G51vx is a cheaper model to the G51JX it still packs a punch because of the GPU. Mine has a 1366x786 res screen which is a drop from my M1530's 1440x900 res screen but I got used to it. Keep in mind that the 1920x1080 res screen of the G51JX will require more graphics power so at native resolutions, the G51vx/G60vx probably runs games better even if it doesn't have the i7 CPU. Also the G51JX has only 1 HDD bay as the other is taken up for more RAM I believe.

Even if both used the same resolutions, the G51vx would still perform better in most games because the GTX 260m beats the 360m.

From my understanding, the GTS 360m is only slightly better than the 9800m GTS.
