I've been around on the internet and I can't seem to make out the answer to my question.

I have found out about the 3 options you are asked if you decide to use the hidden recovery partition/discs. I know that I'm going to choose the one that only changes the c: partition i.e. making OS seem out of the box, restoring all factory settings.

I just want to make sure that my files on the D: and E: partitions will remain untouched if I choose this option. I have 150+ GB files and I don't have an external HDD nor can I get one at the moment. So I can't store those files anywhere else other than the HDD of the laptop itself. DVDs would still be a bit of a strain on the money that I am allowed.

Everything that's on the C: partition, iirc. At least, with my old 1000HA, if you restored it to a full disk, it filled the full disk. If you restored it to something that was partitioned, it restored to just that partition.

    I'd just reinstall windows yourself.

There's a few guides out there, windows 7 DVDs are free to download from microsoft (well, digital river, but it's done on purpose by MS) and asus drivers are easy to get (and most are done by windows update).

Reinstalling windows is too much hassle for a guy like me. I know about those guides and I would look into them except I just don't want to mess up the setup I have since I've only got one computer with a windows 7 key to test out the downloaded copy on.

I still don't understand what you're saying though. Yeah I'm a noob but from what you are saying, I think it means that: "If I choose to restore the full HDD, it will delete all data on the HDD and make one partition only. If I choose the option to only restore one partition (like C: ) then it will only restore the OS and the rest of the data to that and leave everything else on say D: and E: untouched." Am I right?

Hey guys. I did a bit more researching on the internet and some of the people on other forums say that even if you do select the option for keeping the other partitions and just restoring C:, the data on your other partitions will still be deleted (documents, photos, etc.). As in it'll just keep the details about the partitions (size, letter, etc.) but will delete all the data on them.

Can anyone confirm whether this is true or false?

    bumping for answers.

Not sure. Honestly, not a big deal to reinstall - you don't need to use your key to install, either?
