Hey guys. Great site and forum. I've learned a lot over the last week or so browsing around here.
Anyway, I ordered a G1Sn-X1, and nowhere can I find if it comes with 32-bit or 64-bit Vista. Any ideas which it comes loaded with?
I'm asking ahead of time because I'm downloading a few things now I want to put on it, and to get the application from Microsoft to recognize an Xbox 360 controller, I need to know which one my new laptop will have.

More likely than not, it will have a 32-bit version of Vista.
-
Thanks!
It's not a huge deal, just trying to save myself some download time once it arrives. -
Under 4GB of ram: 32 almost definitely
4GB: 64 -
No problem. Most mainstream laptops have 32-bit OS'. If it was 64-bit, they would say so to attract people, and distinguish that feature and make it a selling point.

It's probably 64-bit then.

I'll just download both versions of the app. Now I feel like I clogged the board with a useless topic. Sorry.
Since you guys are here, though, is there any difference in how 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Vista run/handle things? This will be my first time using Vista. -
Maybe 64-bit will have more incompatibilities (like poorly working drivers). But I can't say for sure, I have no experience with 64bit.

It shouldn't have any problem. You might miss somedrivers (like fingerprint reader or webcam) depending if Asus put them or not but thats all

Thanks again, guys, for all the replies. I really appreciate the help, and this place. I'll be visiting a lot. -
I have an m50sv and I installed Vista 64! I Thought I would have a hard time since my driver DVD said only 32 bit OS and Asus site didnt have any 64 bit drivers for my laptop. You should check your DVD if there are 64 bit drivers. I have my m50 working fully!!

most 32bit drivers work on 64bit, and many of the drivers are labeled as 32bit but have dual installers and will install the 64bit stuff.
Still tho there is no large reason to go 64bit over 32bit. Its not faster, its not better, it has more incompatibilities.
The only real reason anybody uses it right now is for 4gb+ of ram, most notebooks will never use 4gb of ram even if its installed. and 32bit still uses 3.2-3.5gb of ram so your only losing about a half a gig or so if you use 32bit instead. Thats not a big deal.
When you decide to use 8gb of ram on your desktop, thats when you would have to use x64.
Its a person to person basis tho for sure and there is no right answer for everybody to follow. I was one of the pro 64bit guys until I have had a few too many older programs I want to use not work with x64 and there is NO cure for this, find an alternate program or use a different OS. In my case these are games or very specific programs that have no alternatives. So next install for me is going to be 32bit.
BTW I currently use Vista Home Premium x86 on my laptop and Vista Ultimate x64 on my desktop daily so I am not biased in any way I just shoot the facts. -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Back to the original question issue....
Looking through a couple linked pages from Google search confirm that the -x1 model is HomePremium 64b.
Gotta love when that little search engine works.
Which version of Vista?
