I have heard that C90 will be able to support the new 8800 GPU's when they come out. And I've heard that they won't support them. Which is right? And who confirmed that the 8800 will work for the C90?

The Asus C90S will support the upcoming 8800M GPU as far as thermals go. The C90S only supports up to 25W GPUs and the 8800M is a 22W according to notebookreview but I think the footprint of the GPU might be too big for the Asus C90S.

So, the C90 can power it, but the card won't fit in the frame?

I've heard speculations of it, but I don't think there was concrete evidence and proof there was, or if there was, I missed it :p

I will tell you this much. If asus planned to come out with a 8700 or 8800 in the c90s they would announce as soon as the technology was made available in other laptops. if 8700 and 8800 are already available iam afraid you are all out of luck. I have been know to be wrong ......rarely.

Well they can't announce since the 8800m has not come out Asus has to stay hush hush about it. Like I said in the other thread Milestonepc said there would be an 8800m. Milestone said there would be 5 cards available for the c90 by January 2008 and lo behold that the c90s parts list has 5 gpus listed, coincidence?

Just being optimistic but if there is no real "upgrade" such as an 8800m (or 2900 but this seems farther off) this will be my last Asus purchase.

Well, the 8800M GS is listed in the Asus G1S drivers, but they were old, and we have since matched the codenames to the newly announced 8700M GT. So, we think the 8800M GS is an old name, and they decided the 8700M GT was a more fitting on, and I agree, since it doesn't even have a 256bit interface. Sager manual for the M570RU says the 8700M GT is MXM-III, but that doesn't mean one could be made for the lower form-factor, such as MXM-II, the maximum in C90S.

So, it looks less than 50% likely we'll see the 8800M GS, which is now the 8700M GT, but it's still out there on the table.

As for the article the Inquirer posted, I don't believe it. It'd be cool if it were true, but right now, all it is to me is a massive blob on the Google radar when I'm looking for more intresting proof, since hundreds of other sites posted it as news as well.

But people, don't forget, Asus is making a whole Line of Cx0 notebooks. Even if nothing way better than 8600M GT comes out this generation, don't close of next generation as a possibility.

Seriously. If this were a desktop, would you care about buying an 8800GTS and then upgrade to an 8950GTX later in it's life-span, or would the GeForce 9800 sound better?

Assu said we'd see this notebook in May, and it's July, and still none in stock. I wouldn't hold them to their 5 graphics card word either. I guess eventually, but maybe not by January 2008.

Well January 2008 seems fitting IF it were to happen. The 9 series desktop parts are going to come out late this year or early next year so the mobile 8800 series has to come out before then. I have a feeling that although the series might not be available during the summer it will be announced sometime within it.

It is literally impossible for the 8700M, with the specs as it has now, to fit MXM-II. It is possible to shave off a few Watts MAYBE, but the 8700M is rated 10 Watts over the MXM-II threshold. It isn't happening, zero percent. HOWEVER, I think the real upgrades will be coming this time next year, when nVidia can sink its teeth into 45nm manufacturing with the 9xxx series, which (with that die) could have its highest end cards fit MXM-II.
