Why does this laptop have such a bad rez 1366x768?? Anyway to make it at least 1440x900? im about to return this to best buy and get something that has a better screen.
-
Because the next rez up on a 16:9 screen is from 1366x768 to 1920x1080And that's probably a little to high for a 15"
-
thats fine for a 15"!!!
-
no way my ibm t61p had 1920x1200 and that was the best. anyway to make this bigger. a mod or something?
-
Try raising your DPI. -
look it is the same res as a 720p hdtv. and if it is so bad why did you buy it in the first place. What do you need such a high res for any way? and the reason it has such a low res is because it is a new form factor so they are in the making of new higher res screens but you will have to wait. i heard that there is a 1080p screen coming out soon so you could bite the bullet for now now or go get a crappy lappy with a poor graphics card and a high res screen.
-
The higher end models (G50VT-A1) sold online cost $1600 to $1800 and come with WSXGA+ (1680 + 1050)
-
Yeh and actually if you're playing a game at at that rez(768P) it wouldn't really be bad
EDIT: Also I just found out that there is a resolution between 1366x768 and 1920x1080, it's 1600x900but I think sony is the only one using that ATM
-
i like the higerrez screens because i can have more screen space.

I dont see why people find 1366x768 a low resolution. Its not like its THAT low. I was debating the point of having a 1080p screen on the 16 inch HDX. Im stepping up from a 15.4 inch 16:10 laptop that had a 1280x800 screen so I have no real quarrel with the res all in all its about the same just a 16:9 aspect ratio.
When I game itll be on my 22inch 1680x1050 samsung anyways except for on the go. Im just wondering if the Panel in the X5 is as bad as the one i saw reviewed on an older G50. That would be the killer not the res.
@ Elijah, the HP DV7 has 1600x900 as well, sony wouldnt be able to afford selling the panel if it wasn't sold elsewhere. -
-
still a higer rez is so much better to look at.
-
A lower resolution makes the laptop cheaper, which is important when you sell it at BB. Besides, the X1 and the X5 are clearly aimed at the pure gamer, who doesn't need the extra screen real estate for work. Besides, a lower res means more fps at the same quality settings.
-
With all those expensive customizations you made, wth did you buy the X5 in the first place? Why not an A2, with WSXGA+ and 2x320GB? -

Im too impatient waiting 19 more days is already killing me im not gonna tack on 2 more weeks lol. -
The screen resolution does not bother me, it's the bad viewing angles and washed out colors that hold this laptop back in the screen department.
-

Looking at some shots the side to side looked worse then my desktop but the up down looked about the same. I didnt see a head on shot i dont think. -
The lower resolution keeps the price own, you get a LOT of power for $899.
-
i searched around craiglist ebay and dell outlet and found nothing i wanted. i had a budget of $1200. i bought the gateway fx 7805u and did the same upgrades i did to this asus. I hated the gateway becaue its a gateway and it was so heavy. so my only choice was this asus model and i do like it but i cant use my bluray drive becaue it uses a different connector and i hate the screen size rez. 15.6" is a good size but it should have a higer rez. at least 1440 x 900 and higher. im almost ging to return this to best buy and get the gateway again or just skip past a gaming laptop and go with like a dell or something. plus i have some problems with the keyboard on this asus and the touch pad.

King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
What do you mean you can't use your blueray drive? From a different laptop? Simply wait a year and upgrade your G50 to a then quite cheap generic blueray. You won't find a 1 graphic card high end gaming laptop at such a low price and if the reso were higher eg1680x1050 you wouldn't be able to max out the most recent games at native reso.
-
1366x768 can seem low when doing photo and video editing and general tasks, but the laptop is geared towards games and media, so 16:9 is great for movies and lower resolutions get you higher framerates in games.
Lower Res+Powerful GPU=great gaming performance.
What more could you ask for for 899$? -
Ïf resolution is such a big issue, why don't you buy an external monitor ? Get any resolution you want.

I went and looked at the screen today and its no where near as bad as an older G50 Model Review i saw pics of. Though it was in the bright light of a store, their maybe a greater transition in a darker room. It looks livable to me.
In open light as well the flashing lights were barely noticeable and the design looks better in person though id still rather have a blank lid. -
well i dont plays games i just wanted a gameing rig. but i hate the small rez and im bringing it back and getting a outlet dell xps m1730.
-
Again, why the **** did you get the BestBuy version then added all those upgrades, effectively getting rid of the X5's pricing advantage when you could have got an A2 with WSXGA+?
And, "well i dont plays games i just wanted a gameing rig"??? Wth.
How does someone like you have all that money? -_- -
why did i buy it from best buy. well lets see there the only place to buy a laptop not online. i didnt want to wait and i looked every were before goign to best buy. i checked ebay and craigslist and no one had anything good. i even checked dell.com/outlet as well. if best buy sold a A2 i would of bought it. i had a $1250 budget. but best buy only sold two gaming laptops. gateway fx andthis asus. why is it any of your bussiness asking me about my money. i work hard and make alot of money thats how. i also wanted something with a led backlite keyboard. again best buy had none of that. looks like im gonna be buying a dell. i have no chocie. i wanted a gaming rig because there the best. just because i dont play games dont mean i cant buy a gaming rig.

Doesnt BB carry the HP HDX16? It has a backlit keyboard but ud never know it until u turned it on. Also looks entirley different in the dark. I dunno which version BB carry's but the Quickship model is 1099 has a P8600, 4GB DDR, 500GB HDD, 9600 GT with a 1366x768 display. Its avaliable from HP with a 30% off cuopon right now u can get it with a 130M and a 1080p screen if u like but thats not from best buy of course.
On the flip side i dont see how someone would throw an x9000 into a laptop and then say oh im gonna take it back. Alot of work to undo, kinda unbelievable that u did any of it yet even if u had the money. -
best does carry the hdx but its only online.
-
alo there is like no work to change the hard rives and processor. all you do is take off 10 screws or so and take the plastic poece off and then undo like 5 screws and then thats it. very easy. i guess im looking for too much out of a laptop. i want 1920x1200 lighted keyboard. nvidia sli web cam etc. so ya dell xps m1730 is what i need and going to get.
-
Ahahaha. First of all, the X9000 doesn't work in the G50VT. Second of all, you also have to apply thermal paste to the new processor, our else things will go haywire. Tell me you did? And tell me you didn't actually try and jam a Santa Rosa CPU into a Montevina chassis?
And why not online? You potentially quadruple your amount of choices, you can customize it all you like and the wait is what, 3 or 4 days? You can also order from Best Buy and retrieve it from a store..
If you only had a $1250 budget, where did the 8GB RAM, Extreme CPU and HDDs come from? And the Asus G50VT has a 9800M GS.
You made my day, please go on.
-
are you nuts do i need to take screen shots showing i have the x9000 in my system. it works just fine. i didnt want to wait even a day. thats why not online. plus i only had cash and didnt have a bank to put it in and use a credit card. i did also use artic silver poaste
-
-
Please. CPU-Z would be nice.

here you go.

lololol @ taskbar.
Okay, I'm just trying to help you, no need to get upset. I'm not jealous of anything you have. I'm just in a helping mood and like to have a laugh
Could you possibly do a test called wPrime? I still don't think the X9000 can work inside a G50VT... -
RainMotorsports Formerly ClutchX2
LOL @ Task bar, but to help pressing alt before print screen with the program in focus will get just the program so you know.
I dont see any reason why the X9000 wouldn't work if its within voltage spec. Sometimes a bios will interferes with some processors but the X9000 should work with the G50's chipset as long as the bios doesn't say no. -
The X9000 is strictly a Santa Rosa CPU, the G50VT strictly can only use Centrino 2 CPUs. If the X9000 can work, that theoretically means the T9500, T9300 ---- T5500 can all work but they CAN'T. That's what's really weird. Only the X9100 Extreme CPU should work.

My knowledge of notebook chipsets has been slapped lol. Darn so I cant use a T6600 lol. If i could order this X5 i would get it with the T6600 slight speed/benchmark increase at a loss of 10 watts TDP. but HP wanted 50 bucks less for it so thats why i say that. Im almost always on the wall I just like to be able to move room to room to room and off to work is why i want a laptop.

BTW i made an error in my PM i was looking at the older platform on the wireless card so my bad the 5350 is Centrino 2 i dont need an answer thanks.
That also explains why the G50 supports 800mhz ram which i had never seen in a laptop before. So it doesnt support the old Centrino supported processors? They both support Penryn based processors but that doesnt necesarilly mean anything. -
Nope. Penryn is a broad range of CPUs, Santa Rosa being the first half of releases, Montevina being the revision. Montevina is part of Centrino 2, a minor upgrade to Santa Rosa, bringing WiMax support, DDR3 support and other stuff.
-
well all i knbow is my x9000 works fine and the bios sees it fine.
-
The common BIOS flash for a 9800m GS is to a GTS, not a GT.
-
well mine says gt so i dont knwo what to tell you
-
-
i guess no one is listening to me. i did the vga flash upgrade on this and its showing it correcly. its the gt. also dxdiag in windows shows the same.
-

If you used a different method, show me. I haven't heard of OC'ing to a GT level. -
And doesn't the GT have more shader cores? Can't flash that in the Bios
-
Anyone who truly believes that they can flash a GS to a GT is very confused. Check out this website for a comparison of the two video cards. The GS has 64 Shader Processors where the GT has 96(128) and the GS has 32 Texture Units where the GT has 48(64). Note the number shown like this "(64)" are disabled but can possibly be re-enabled on the GT cards.
Basically you can't "flash" these into a video card, if they are not there in the first place. If you check the GS vs the GTS you will see that the above are the same and only the clocks change. -
Why Does The ASUS G50VT-X5 Have Crappy Rez 1366X768??
