At first I believed it was because of "drivers" issue, and people now knowing how to fix it. (heck many people dont even know what drivers are)
But when i started looking around at more refurbished laptops, i noticed 80% of them were ASUS, i know dell has a lot, but they are just not avalible through newegg or amazon
So is it really that ASUS quality is horrible? People not knowing how to use them? What is really causing this problem?
I just bought an UL80(refurbished ofcourse, it was only 550 with shipping and tax) , but am starting to grow concern as to why this is happening.
LASTLY, anyone know the difference between UL80J and UL80JT?
I know the the mouse pad is different thats is all. What does J stand for? T?![]()

You're just focusing on the big box online retailers. The major brands each have their own "outlet" sites with tons of refurbished stuff, most with tons more stuff than Asus. Asus quality is not very different than HP, Sony, Lenovo, Dell, etc. Each of those have their own websites:
Dell Outlet Has Refurbished Laptops & Used Notebook Deals | Dell
Refurbished business products
Sony Outlet & Refurbished Products | Sony | Sony Style USA
Lenovo Outlet - Home page - Discounted Laptops, Cheap Laptops, Refurbished Laptops, Discounted Desktops, Cheap Desktops, Refurbished Desktops
So, I have to disagree with you and say that Asus is really not any different than the other vendors in terms of quantity of refurbished goods and perhaps is even better since they do actively release bios and driver updates. I would even say there is probably far less Asus refurbished laptops out there than other brands, especially Dell, HP, and Lenovo. -
Yes that why i mentioned amazon and newegg, i said those have around 80% of the total refubirshed coming from ASUS
Can you answer me last questions? just curious. This should be easy to answer as an ASUS fan, but i just cant find it anywere on the internet somehow.
BTW answer the poll if you can, am just curious also xD -
Because Asus has been gaining popularity and been making more computers. It has nothing to do with quality at all. These are usually refurbished for simple reasons, especially during the holidays.
Asus is known for their reliability and have generally good build, with some models being the exception. I can't speak entirely from experience, as the only Asus notebook I've owned thus far is my G73, but I can say that the plastic used is top-notch and years ahead of Acer, Gateway, ect. It's a beast and performs as such.
Looking at Amazon right now, the information you provided appears to be incorrect.
24 Dell notebooks, 7 Asus, 6 IBM, 33 HP, 7 Lenovo, 7 Toshiba, 2 Apple, ect.
It's hard to get an exact number because Amazon's website is weird for refurbs, another search gave me 42 Dells, 9 Lenovo, 7 IBM, 15 Asus, 49 HP, ect.
Likewise on Newegg, 27 HP, 11 Asus, 10 Dell, 6 Toshiba, 4 Gateway, 3 MSI, ect. -
Weird I saw mostly Asus.....
Either way its just a question that i was curious about.
I have used an ASUS N10J for over 2 years, without a single problem. And still running perfect, whoever I am very tech savy with hardware/software and keep them up to speed at all times. Reason why i decided to stay with i3 ul80 as compared to an i5. ( i would never get an i7 for a laptop. crappy battery) My eee pc has also lasted more than 2 years without a problem.
Asus is my favorite brand for sure, mainly because cheap prices, i just felt i would bring this question up and see what i would learn from here. -
There are a lot of Asus computers on Amazon and such, because asus doesn't have full supply chain integration like HP, lenovo and such. Also, asus computers don't tend to be stocked well in bricks and mortar stores - a lot of the laptops are sold on line. So what you're seeing isn't what you think you're seeing - The reason you see a lot of asus refurbs on line is because asus does a lot of it's business through smaller resellers which tend to have a more online presence.
Places like BB or Futureshop or Staples or Walmart will almost NEVER have asus refurbs, but will have tonnes of gateway and HP refurbs. -
Yeah thats probably the reason the most refurbs are from them.
yeah i know theres tons of dell and hp refurbished laptops, but they have a way bigger market share than ASUS, if they both were to sell the same amount of units, ASUS would have tons and tons of refurbished.
I'm glad to see that on the poll, the lowest voted one is DOA motherboard, and such. Thats what scares me the most, as most issues can be fixed.
also interesting that all the others have the same exact voting (all with 4 votes) -

IMO, I think there's a lot of Asus refurbished units out there because a lot of units have been RMAed due to users that had an unsuccessful bios flashing thus got their units bricked.
Other factors came from RMAed units that have overheating GPU cards due to poor thermal paste used by Asus or poor application method perhaps. -
I've never had to flash a bios, am i just being lucky?
or is this something common that you have to do on ASUS? (Currently own two asus, and i have never done this.) -
Generally, the bios is something you don't change unless there is a problem. You generally NEVER have to change it, unless you want to. -
Hopefully ill never have to do it to my new ul80
-
I'm thinking of buying an ASUS laptop with an Intel i5 but want to make certain I can easily change out the hard drive if I want to upgrade.
Do you know which model is the easiest to access and change the drive? Also, do you have any ASUS laptop model preference? -
I like 14 inch screen so ill go withUL80
changing the HD and RAM is very easy..... any model......
Why are most refurbished notebooks ASUS brand?
