Just wondering if you have a theory why Asus doesn't have more laptops on the Most Viewed laptops. I love mine, and the G73JH is #6, but when I compare some of the features on Asus to some of the others versus price, they should have some more that are higher in popularity.

Maybe it's because when I got mine people were like, "Asus", what's that? :D

    Whoa ads on tv?
    :D

I guess most of the non-techie people in family have heard of Dell, HP....then it starts to trail off. But still curious why Asus isn't selling more. Maybe cause they aren't in more retail channels?

Your observation about DeLL, HP, even Acer is correct. They are focused on the main stream.

Consider that for the most part DeLL, HP and many others are just notebook/desktop resellers. Asus is a multi billion dollar company that has it's assets spread all over the technology field. They actually produce components. Dell and HP do not make any notebooks. Asus above and beyond their own manufacturing of Asus notebooks. ODM for other companies. At times Apple/DeLL/HP you name it. They are in the top 5 of actual notebook MFG's. I have MFG'd the exact same number of notebooks as DeLL and HP. That would be zero.

Do not feel sorry for Asus. They actually went to Compal (2nd largest MFG of notebooks in the world) to try and lay off contracts. Compal said no thanks. Asus has plenty of demand, keeping up the production is what they are fighting.

I think part of the situation specifically here in Australia, is that Asus laptops aren't sold in any of the major stores, like Harvey Norman and other retail chains. People, particularly in my state, as it is much less developed, are extremely wary of buying notebooks from the internet, where the majority of Asus resellers are.

For example, Harvey Norman, probably the biggest department store chain over here, is a major HP, Acer and Toshiba reseller. And I find that Toshiba and HP, and Acer laptops are just about the only brands you see here.

I definitely think that Asus needs to branch out more, and appeal to the wider audience. Most non techies prefer to go to a brick and mortar store than buy off the internet.

Also, Moral Hazard, I have never seen any Asus ads where I live for some reason, lol. Must be a mainland thing.

From what i can tell, asus laptops are becoming more widely available, at least here in Canada. I've seen stores that started carrying asus notebooks over the last 2-3 years.

However, the main electronic stores like future shop and best buy (with the exception of a few models made for them like the G73 BB) don't carry asus laptops.

Seeing that Asus has kept advertising costs to a minimum in the US, it wouldn't surprise me to see a US-based website such as NBR to have Asus poorly ranked in terms of popularity. Asus does advertise in some tech magazines and websites, but never have I seen them take out a full-page ad on the NY times, radio, television or sponsor any sports events. Not having a retail store or kiosks like Apple and Dell also limits Asus's exposure to the public. The limited Asus laptops available at brick and mortar stores doesn't help either since many US consumers would still avoid purchasing big ticket items over the internet and want a hands on experience with a laptop before making a purchase.

While Asus has been making laptops for other OEM companies for many years, Asus has only recently begun to enter the laptop market for end-users. It's only been several years since they started their own branded laptops while other companies have been in the market for decades. Throughout these long years, there's bound to be customers whom have acquired brand loyalty to the older brands which is probably another added factor for Asus's low popularity rank.

On the other hand, if you go to Taiwan, you will see 5-story Asus ads plastered along buildings, TV commercials shown during prime-time, magazine ads on almost every published Taiwanese magazine as well as TV channels similar to QVC that offers numerous Asus products on a daily basis.

And you most likely got a 1 in 500 unit.

Remember, other brands of notebooks have the same chances of those sorts of faults. It's not really like Dull's or HP's notebooks smell like roses 100% of the time.

G73JH is the only laptop that have so many problems. I think that Asus was in hurry to release first laptop with mobility ATI 5870. If they could take a little bit more time to test it thoroughly, it will be bestseller ever for Asus. That laptop was discussed a lot even before it's release. I think that sson when Asus G73JW will be release it will be more stable. Hope that soon other Asus laptops will appear in list of most view. For me Asus laptops, videocards and motherboards always was top of the line.

I suggest a RMA for the mobo, flash to 209 BIOS and watch all your problems go away.

OP, if more people clicked on Asus laptops on NBR, they would be more popular. If you really want them to be more popular, we all have to start clicking on Asus laptop links on NBR all the time. Keep in mind you're competing with thousands of google searchers who just want to find reviews on whatever crappy Dell is getting advertised to them in the mail.

LOL. I don't really care one way or the other, and I don't feel sorry for Asus either as someone else said...more just curious why they haven't made more in roads because I love my N61, and when I compared features for price, it meet or beat most of the other brands at the same size on 9 out of 10 things.

I was just surprised when so many people I know were like, "wait, what brand is that?!". But after they saw it in person, were really impressed.
