In just a couple of sentences, why did you buy an ASUS as opposed to other brands?

I bought my V6V because of the good deal and nice extras at the time. I also know for a fact that ASUS makes reliable motherboards, one of the most expensive parts in a notebook to replace.

W3J has a nice design, the more time you spend it with it really does make you feel like it's been well thought out. good screen, keybooard, portable yet powerful --what more do you need?

I fortunately had the chance to live close to a couple of resellers in my area, so I personally looked and played with them. I was pretty impressed with the M6 series, and so I bought the Z70va when it first came out. I always liked the V6 series, so out of impulse, I upgraded haha :p

Because I was tired of getting the big name, mainstream crap and having them cheap out on me with the hardware, bloatware, and customer service.

Good quality notebook with plenty of power to last at least a couple of years. Not having to deal with a lot of extra bloatware that the namebrands pile on (there was some, but not nearly as much as on my Compaq or my Gateway desktop).

To be different, they produced a notebook with the attributes I wanted (good graphics in a small package), great build quality, etc...

Because they make the best performing 15.4 and there reputation is great, the free world wide two year warranty didn't hurt either.

My first laptop. I wanted one of the most powerful I could get for a reasonable price. And it looks good too. The Dell would have cost hundreds less and I probably wouldn't have noticed the difference in performance. But I couldn't live with the looks.

I started researching the Asus notebooks because the options for a 14.1" notebook with dedicated graphics were limited. Very limited. After reading so many great reviews and finding that the prices were very good, I knew I had found exactly what I was looking for.

    I don't have any regrets.

Looked to have good quality with decent components at a fair price.
I was tired of Dell and wanted something different that didn't have all the crap that goes along with a big brand name.

I wanted something powerful, affordable, and customizable. I always build my own desktops, so naturally I wanted a very personalized notebook... and so I went with the M6Ne as my first notebook. No regrets whatsoever.

I bought an Asus because I wanted to be the cool kid on campus.

And because I wanted a laptop that wouldn't become obsolete inthe next couple years.

I sell notebooks at work, of the brands we sell our asus models had the fewest faults by a long way, so chose the more reliable brand.

Did 3 months of reading through these forums, and made my choice.

The W3J had a great blend of power, quality, durability and in a nice tight package. I'm sorry to say that if Asus does not release a W3J replacement (Good vid card + build quality) in the 13-14" range I will not be buying another laptop from them.

Success in past ASUS parts for my desktop, all still running by the way :)

Then I found these forums and found they made notebooks. Read and drooled over them finally deciding on my beloved G1P. Not long after they released the G1S and for once I didn't feel too bad because this plays every game I own awesomely.

When I finally find that game it can't handle I have a good gaming desktop :) (with ASUS motherboard)

My first notebook, the M6Ne: I had no idea about what notebook brands were good and what were not, so basically I just wandered through the stores and looked at the notebooks. From the moment I saw the M6Ne, I knew this is it. Just by looking at it it was clear that it simply blew away everything else that I had seen in terms of build quality and looks, and probably therefore also in component quality (it would be strange to invest in build quality in a notebook and put crappy components inside). The only experience that I had before with ASUS was with optical drives, but that was good experience.

After that, when it was time for an upgrade, I did not even consider other brands. I checked these forums, and some reviews, and sifted through the products at asus.com, and the more I looked, the more it was clear that the V6 is the best-looking and best-built ASUS laptop. It also had a 15" screen in a very small and thin package (14"-size package, really). I paid a cr_pload of money on it (it was just out), and I don't regret one cent :) even though I had some problems with it. I still think it's the most beautiful laptop ever made, and it's very reliable except non=critical battery problems.

The fact that I could buy a barebone with no operating system on it ('cause I use Linux) and customize cpu, hdd , ram helped a lot in my decision. Also, I never had any problems with their motherboards and also, the line of notebooks they had when the Pentium-M was out was just incredible, like the z63a, w3v, v6v, z33. Now I really don't like their new notebooks, like the G1, A8, V1, V2 and F3 series, they don't have the same wow factor when you look at them.

I decided to go with the G1S over the Compal IFL90 for a few reasons. One being that I didnt want to wait and also because I, like many, have had great Asus motherboards and trust in their quality.

I bought a Z71V because after looking for over a year at various different models, it was the only unit I found that had good battery life, decent graphics power, and a modular bay. I didn't know anything about the company at the time, however after favorably noting the comparison between my Asus and the Dells and Apples and the few Gateways and Toshibas that I've seen in class regarding power, wear, screen, and battery life over the last 2 years, I'll likely buy another Asus in the future.

I have seen one or two Thinkpads in class that match my computer in wear and battery life, but I think they look kinda ugly.

I* bought my G1 because of the rave reviews it got here, the nice customer review it got on this site as well and the fact that it had a Go7700 on a 15.4 inch screen. Also I wanted gaming performance (without breaking my bank) and portability for college. This notebook is going to fit nicely in my dorm room.

i got the A8JP partially due to friend's recommendation (he also uses an Asus M9v, with no issues). Also, coming from an *ahem* HP Compaq nx6115 lemon, i decided that reliability and gaming performance must be a top piority. Combined with a T7200 and X1700, it exceeds my expectations and thus my no.1 choice!

You can find all this information on www.asus.com . Here's what I do: I search for the model number, say G1, and get to an URL that looks like this:

    http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=5&l2=74&l3=464&l4=0&model=1447&modelmenu=1

then I switch the "modelmenu" to the right of the URL to value 2 instead of 1, e.g.,
    http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=5&l2=74&l3=464&l4=0&model=1447&modelmenu=2

And this gives the detailed technical specs including screen size, weight, dimensions.

I just said the G2 was big since it's a 17"; by definition that's big for a laptop, and it's not really intended for carrying around too much. Also, I've read through some threads that said the G1 and G2 are a bit heavy even for their category. Btw, G1 is widescreen everything is widescreen nowadays.

    Sorry for the offtopic.

I first got interested by reading all the positive comments here on the forum. Also Ive used lots of Asus parts in my old desktops and they have been rock solid. Last, IBM specs suck.. awesome build quality and service on my T43 but no gaming at all with a GMA950 so I decided to try out Asus notebook line. Anyways very happy with my V6VA. Its an older model but I got a good deal on it.. does everything I need and has the beautiful IPS screen.
