Well after seeing a few people asking about the quality of Asus notebook compared to dell and hp and the likes I thought I'd share something I found tonight.

Anyone know what dell model this is (I mean was)

Actually there were pics of an asus that exploded even worse than that almost took a desk out. Its due to faulty batterys which arent made by any pc maker. And if you want to get down to it Hps arent made by HP they are made by OEMS like asus and quanta etc.. Thats very rare though pcs exploding. nokia had a problem with cell batterys that were exploding in peoples pockets.

ehmmm... (Asus laptop explodes oso, no fire, just exploded) http://www.315union.com/asus/2006/02/6683.html
Do a babelfish on it. But the title says, after the explosion of asus notebooks in taiwan, another notebook exploded in china

oh.. here.. A compaq exploded oso http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=85231

Anyway, i don't think it's frequent. It's just some assembling error that shorted out the circuit, causin the explosion of the battery. But it would really bad, if u see ur baby notebook explode....

The worst thing about it is the warranty. Would they believe you? My laptop caught on fire... "Are you sure you didn't throw it in the fire place." ;)

my word, after looking at the pictures of that burnt out A3 I'm rather worried.... my notebook has the same battery in it! But with 8 cells so possibly twise the mess.

Interesting to see that the cells were the size of normal AA batteries! would have thought bigger.

In all of these cases, the fault has usually been traced back to a faulty battery... and no manufacturer is immune. I believe even Apple has recently done a recall of some dodgy batteries.

Anyone remember the good old days when the only things you worried about with a notebook were weight, battery life and viewing angles? Now we've gotta worry about blast radii too...

Haha, don't get the 8 cell, get the 6... because if the 6 blows the blast radius won't be as devastating... :D

Everything can melt down - back in the day of 'brick' analog cell phones, I had this giant thing, Motorola I believe, and one day I came back to find it strangely changed into a stinking pile of plastic on the kitchen counter. Oh man, if only there was fark back in 1990! :p
